Ron MacMillan Dies

Postby cataquet » January 27th, 2005, 5:30 am

Another great magician has died... Known for his Symphony of the Spheres (billiard ball manips), his International Magic shop, and his International Magic Convention, Ron was one of the greats.

I am very saddened by this news.

One of the first things I did upon moving to London this past September was visit International Magic where I met Martin MacMillan, Ron's son. I wanted to get Ron's approval to join IBM Ring 25, the British Ring, for which Ron was the London interviewer. Martin said Ron would be at the International Magic convention and I could meet him there, which I did. Ron was very supportive and I had some pleasant moments speaking with him. He made time for me even though, as you might imagine, things were very busy what with his convention taking place.

As my friend Harold Cataquet said, in addition to his being a fine human being he was an excellent magician. Magic is poorer for his loss.

I am writing a little news article about Ron Macmillan's passing away. Does anybody know when he was born?

Oh so sad... I spent many happy times with Ron when he would come visit the US... and I performed at his Convention some time back, Hans Moretti was on the bill with me, as was Dai Vernon...what a great time we had then.

R.I.P., Ron :(
Stay tooned.

very sad. Ron was my interviewing officer when i joined the IBM.
I say interviewing officer, i bought a flying carpet off of him, which helped. :)
I have a number of christmas cards from him at hime, which i shall traesure. They were a number of Photo's from that years london day.
Lovely memories.....
Sad loss.
