New Book by Ken Silverman

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

If you enjoyed the wonderful biography "HOUDINI!!!" by Pulitzer-Prize Winner Ken Silverman, then you've probably been converted into a fan.
His latest biography is "Lightning Man: The Accursed Life of Samuel F.B. Morse" and has been published by Knopf. Morse was much more than just the man who invented the telegraph, and Ken paints a vivid picture. Highly recommended! is offering it at 30% off: ... ce&s=books

In my opinion, the primary thing that makes Houdini!!! such a great book is the fact that Kenneth Silverman is a professional biographer. With all due respect to the magicians who have tackled biographies in the past (a very difficult task indeed--and there are some very good ones out there), they simply can't hold a candle to Silverman. His research is impeccable and his suppositions are always identified as such. Even then he usually offers extenuating circumstances and evidence to support his suppositions. This is rare in many magic biographies where supposition is often presented as fact.

I would also recommend his biography on Poe (Edgar A Poe: Mournful and Never-ending Remembrance).
