It's Official

According to the latest on-line news services, "scientists" have "proved" that ordinary people can "read minds." ... aders.html

Of course all they have shown is that what mentalists have been calling "cold reading" is pretty darn accurate and that anyone can learn to do it, but we knew that!

However, let's run with the "official" version and use it as a lead-in to our own mental effects. This "news" is good for mentalism in general!

Mirror Neurons and you...

What happens when you stimulate that network while the subject is watching other stuff like animals or machines or art?

What sort of subjective experiential shifts occur?

Is nice to see the "in your shoes" idea correlates to an organic feature of our brains. Further research may yield some insight into non-empathic responses such as bigotry and the thinking of sociopaths.

BTW, "mentalism" is an approach to psychology that seeks internal motivations for actions, i.e. the reasons and inner world view of the organism. The other side, "behaviorism" posits that one need not presume that an organism has any model of the world or any experience of a model of the world, and that their behavior comes in response to organic and external stimuli.

More mentalism please.
