SAM Museum Appraised Today

Postby Kevin Connolly » March 3rd, 2008, 8:21 am

I hear that the SAM museum will be appraised today. The magic appraisers will have to wear Haz-Mat suits to do their job. It sounds like an interesting day.

Where did you hear that? Yesterday, Caveney, one of those involved, told me that the plan was in jeapordy?

Why is it being appraised? And why would the plan be in jeopardy?

The entire museum was contaminated with hazaradous materials (PCPS?) during a fire in the building above it (or something like that). The whole thing needs to be estimated for insurance purposes. There are currently questions about whether insurance will pay for everything to be decontaminated or if everything will simply have to be destroyed. The contamination is not the fault of the SAM.
Somebody with a clear recollection of what happened is welcome to post more.

I think there was a utility fire underneath the building and it left some kind of oily film on everything. With lawyers, experts and a Haz-Mat team, this will run into money.

Wow, so slow you would think the government was involved.
