TV Magician Almost Raped at Magic Castle Hotel

Postby malbright » September 21st, 2007, 7:29 am

So says the headline on TMZ.com. Yikes. Story goes on to read:

TMZ has learned that a female magician -- part of an ensemble of magicians who were supposed to teach celebrities magic tricks -- was a victim of attempted rape at a landmark Hollywood hotel. The cast and crew were staying at the Magic Castle Hotel in Hollywood -- next door to the famed Magic Castle, a private club for magicians.

Police tell TMZ that yesterday at 5:35 AM, the suspect entered the victim's room, jumped on top of her and covered her mouth. The victim fought off the suspect and he lost his cellphone in the scuffle. The police came, took the cellphone and used it as a ruse to lure him to a nearby park where he was popped.

A source tells TMZ the woman won't be doing the show. As for the rest of the cast, they've moved out of the Magic Castle Hotel."

Anyone have more details on this? At least they caught the bastard.

Arrested ... I think you could understand that from the context, Jon.

Having stayed there a few times, the Magic Castle Hotel may not be the best choice to overnight in that particular area, especially for single women and families.

Just down the hill at the http://www.renaissancehollywood.com/ is a good choice for Castle visits when you want to lodge nearby.

Sorry to say I was hoping they did something else to him and 'popped' was a euphemism.

Glad the SOB was caught and sorry that bozo ruined a shot at TV work on a magic special for his victim.

No day is complete without a nice refreshing rape joke.

Noah, I don't think Pete was making a joke. Just, perhaps, a poor choice of words.

I hope you don't mean that. He's just a suspect, presumed innocent. This kind of mob-vengeance mentality is not to be encouraged, supported, or tolerated.

I went only as far as pondering the news articles author's choice of words and not so far as to condone or consider acts of violence.

Where it belongs (based on the complaints I received).

Thats a great question. I suppose so; like when its coupled with bad judgment and timing, as in this case (based on the complaints I received).

Some friends recently stayed at a nice little hotel down on Orchid. Cant recall the name, but it was nice and quite reasonable.

Yes, there are rules against bad taste. They should be self evident. Do it again and you'll be gone.

Let's face a dark reality, you can be attacked, mugged or raped anywhere, not just at the Magic Castle Hotel... this IS Hollywood after all and even though it's been cleaned up, like any big city (LA) it's not 100% safe... always use caution, always be aware and always understand that "bad" things can happen at anytime, anywhere to anyone... to use an old Eugene Burger line: "to be forewarned is to be forearmed"...

Dustin: I stay at the Hollywood Celebrity Hotel on Orchid when I need to stay close to the Castle. The rooms are comfortable (and a good size), the prices are affordable (they have a Castle discount), the doors to the rooms are on the inside and after midnight you need to be buzzed in by the front desk in order to get into the hotel, and it's right across the street from the Castle and up the street from Hollywood & Highland... The only negative is that they have a very, very small parking lot which is often double or triple parked with hotel registrants -- I park my car across the street in the Castle lot and just walk across to the hotel (with the parking services permission of course)...

Success!!!

As this thread has evolved from a horror story to a travel-guide, I believe I can also recommend "The Saharan" on Sunset.
It is easy walking distance to The Chinese Theater and the Castle further up the block--maybe a mile away at the most...It is clean, relatively quiet, and not expensive. If you prefer not to walk, a cab ride is all of 5 minutes tops...

My post was not a joke. It is possible there is a word there some might find a double meanint to. That was not intended. Beating him off means she fought the guy and he failed in his attempt.
Stay tooned.

Jen Adams here,

Thank you to everyone that has expressed concern here...and to those that made light of the whole thing (whether intentional or not). I am feeling better and getting over the initial shock and just wanted everyone to know that I am alright.
