His card trick Twister is pretty good. I also like his Only One Shuttle Pass Coins Across.

Wasn't it Chris Kenner that coined the name "3-Fly" for his routine? I believe it's called Menage A Trois in Totally Out of Control but I think I read that it was published as "3-Fly" in Magicman Examiner. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh...and I really like Hellbound Spellbound. His 3-coin vanish and reproduction is nicely structured as well. Long Gone Silver I believe it's called.

Chris Bailey:

I believe the write up on OOC/TOOC calls the threefly trick "Menage Et Trois" which is not quite the same thing as Menage A Trois. In French "et" means "and", which in this context doesn't entirely make sense to me, so I'm assuming this is just one of those little clues which if you put them all together will lead you to the real work for Chris's legendary unpublished final vanish for this routine.

If anyone tried learning the rubberband-linking routine from Webbers Lifesavers book and gave up, here is the version for you. It's basically the same but the pictures (instead of photos) and the description are far more clear in this book.

Very nice!

"One word, Sybil.

Didn't Troy Hooser come up with something very similar called "the Illogical Cut"?

No, if I remember correctly Troy taught a variation of the "Illogical Shuffle" (which is really a cut), created by Gianni Mattiola (apologies if I misspelt his name), which is also taught on one of Sankey's Sankeytized videos.

The forerunner of all the cuts done by the Flourish Guys is Bill Kalush's Kalush's Cut which appeared in Apocalypse. From this, I believe, Troy Hooser came up with a much more complex cut which was the inspiration for Kenner's "Sybil." Due to a mishap, my fault as much as Kenner's, Hooser's name went missing from the text in "Out of Control."
But, that gives you a rundown of the chronology.
AND, no one has mentioned Kenner's rope trick in the book: KILLER!

I don't know if Kalush's Cut was published in Apocalypse, but I do know it ran in Paul Harris' column in The Magic Manuscript. Now THERE'S a magazine that's been having trouble coming out on time lately.

Troy Hooser's Illogical Cut was published in The Minotaur magazine. I am almost positive that he credits Gianni Mattiola in the write up.

Yes you are correct sir! It was published in MME as ThreeFly.
I've always wondered why it was called 'Menage et Trois' in the book. What does it mean? Could there be a clue? Well literally it translates
"Menage"=household, "et"=and, "Trois"=3
So it is called 'Household and Three'. I have heard stories of the "Mythical Kenner Routine". Did Chris have any roomates when he came up with it? Who were they? Perhaps they could shed more light. Could he be employing other people to effect the final vanish? Or perhaps it could be a diabolically clever system of interconnected rooms. The rigging is what puzzles me. :)

Bill Kalush told me it was in Magic Manuscript (he couldn't remember which issue), and that's what I reported in my Genii review of the Buck Twins' first video, in my somewhat feeble attempt to trace the modern history of fancy cuts.

Had the chance to meet Chris Kenner very briefly at the recent WMS.

I loved how he responded to one individual who directly asked Mr. Kenner to describe his keys to success in magic in 3 words. Mr. Kenner immediately responded, "Originality and no bulls*#%."

Mr. Kenner sauntered off at that point to other areas of interest. I don't think that the fellow who asked expected such a direct, no non-sense reply. He just sort of stood there.

At the time I chuckled inside, but now find that I have continued to ponder Kenner's short but excellent response.

It was in Magic Manuscript and not Apocalypse? Damn. Just more evidence of middle-age mental deterioration.

I learned that cut from Magic Manuscript... deck looks like it's turning inside-out, then it's back to normal. It's much simpler and a more subtle flourish (is there such a thing?) than the twenty-packet multicuts that the Bucks and Cap Casino and others are doing.

I should get out those MMs and reread them. When I'm not reading Genii, of course.

Joe's right. It's a very odd looking cut and much more subtle than it's decendants.

Bill Kalush's Cut appears in Paul Harris' Close-Up Forum. Page 20 Vol. 4, Issue 4 of Louis Tannen's Magic Manuscript.

If anyone's interested I made a short (76k) WMV video file of the cut.

One important thing about the Kalush cut is that it can be used as a control. It has a magical application in addition to being a visual flourish.
