In Cincinnati it was the "Cool Ghoul" played by Dick Von Hein. He now is the host of Northern Kentucky Magazine on local cable T.V. there.

I am a semi-retired Cardiologist, still doing occasional work at the hospital. I co-founded a computer software company that does battle (quite successfully!) against GE, Philips and Siemens. We sell large network systems to manage cardiac images and information, now with world-wide distribution.
I am also a former guitar player for Jimmy Buffett (okay, okay, it was only one night, and only one song, but I've still got 10 minutes of fame left).

Sadly we must report the passing of another legend in Cincinnati media, the one and only "Cool Ghoul", Dick Von Hoene. Many of us have fond memories of him as the Ghoul, and many others have memories of him in the numerous other things he did "unmasked". Dick passed away Wednesday, February 4th, 2004. He was a much too young 63.
Wow, more memories of youth gone. He was really funny as he mc'd the various "monster" movies.

Re: What's Your Day Job?
I'm quite fortunate to have my 'day job'. I'm have been living in Finland for almost four years now, and still having a devil'uv'a time with the language. Even so, I was lucky enough to actually have a company call and ask me if I wanted a job! Talk about magic! I've been working for the company now for nearly 4 years. The work is 'modern factory work'. In other words, I sit in front of a computer and collate data and make CDRoms containing operation and maintenance manuals for extremely large surface and underground drilling rigs. One of the biggest personal benefits of the job was learning how to create my own CDRom which I now give to potential clients. The biggest burden of the job is being forced to take five weeks of vacation every year! I'm in the middle of my four week summer vacation now, and I have another week to take during the winter months. :-)
I've been fortunate to get an opening into a few television shows since moving here and get my magic career back into motion.

Brampton? You don't happen to work at the DaimlerChrysler plant, do you? In a past life I was the Quality Manager for the JBL / Infinity plant that made sound systems for vehicles at Brampton (and a whole lot of other auto plants.) After that I became a business assessment consultant that told executives the bad news that their employees already knew but were afraid to tell them. Actually quite fun.Originally posted by Gord Gardiner:

Re: What's Your Day Job?
My day job = Magic Geek
A typical day:
Breakfast = Read magic forums
Post Breakfast = Explain to the wife why the above is worthwhile.
Lunch = Read a magic book &/or zine; learn a trick or two
Afternoon = Practice / Rehearse (2-3 hours ideally)
Dinner = Pretend I'd rather be with my family than doing the above ;)
Desert = Catch up on the magi-net-forums (hey, alot can happen since breakfast.)
Late night snack = Be creative.
Part time / odd jobs:
Webmaster-kinda-guy Conn\'s web site (just updated; 12 videos now on the vid-page.)
Last but not least:
Being a father of 3 (girls: wonderful angels)
can seem like a full time job on it's own.

Why yes I do. It's a hot, sweaty job with little if any job satisfaction, but at least it pays well. *Sigh* What we must do to earn a living. If I didn't have magic I'd probaby go up the wall.Brampton? You don't happen to work at the DaimlerChrysler plant, do you? [/QB]

I've been in corporate sales and training for several years. Right now, I'm temporarily unemployed, but that should be finally over this week. I'm taking a job this week with a company that designs and sells trade-show booths. I'm going to be working with clients teaching them how to utilize their booths to increase profitability.
Tabman, I'd like to contact you sometime! I'm just over here in Nashville.

Do you have a monkey? We had a guy in Monterey who had a monkey and some folks complained about the monkey not having dignity or something and they chased him out.

Re: What's Your Day Job?
I write junk mail for a living.
You know, the stuff you find in your mailbox trying to get you to buy something.
Techniclaly, I'm a direct response copywriter -- but few people outside the industry know what that is. The term "Junk mail" everybody knows.
I specialize in financial and alternative health promotions. Specifically, long letters and booklets that try to get you to subscribe to a newsletter or buy a book or video.
And NO -- I don't do spam! :-)
Take care,
J

Technically, I'm a writer, although these days I'm mainly the guy who demonstrates the company's binding products at trade shows. I enjoy both jobs, and I like the products, so I don't mind touting them. Now if I can just convince the company to get a booth at the next magic convention. ;)
