Deck switching.

Hey,

I read the other posts about deck switching and found some interesting things. But I don't want to be mislead.

What im looking for is a switch that doesnt involve "audience managment". Nothing with putting it away in your pocket, just a complete switch before them.

Everything involves audience mangement, it just shouln't feel that way to the audience.

There are a couple of very nice cooler switches in The Complete Works of Derek Dingle, and a number of various types in Tamariz's Mnemonica.

There's something you should keep in mind re: "a gambler's switch" v. a "magician's switch". An example you might appreciate is portrayed in "Shade".

When they switch decks on "Jennings", it's not the "move" that gets him. It's a nice move, and Paul Wilson does it very well. But notice that, first of all, they've got him all hot and bothered ahead of time. Then, the woman comes over and asks if anyone wants drinks. When he turns to her and snaps at her impatiently, that's when the move gets done. It's a nice move, but it doesn't get caught because they do it when he's not looking, not because the move is good.

Hustlers know more about difficult audience managment than most magicians. Only magicians think "the move" needs to be completely "burnable".

All the best card table advice you want is written into "Shade".

1) Never perform a move without shade or misdirection.

2) "Read Erdnase."

3) "Sleep with as many different women as possible."

A funny story regarding the deck switch in Shade. I met Paul Wilson for the first time at Magic Live last summer, very nice guy. I asked if he could just demo the move for me. I just wanted to see it in action, not a lecture on how to do it. He said he would do it for me, if I caugh him later in the hospitatlity suite. I spent the next 3 days chasing and bugging him. (I'm sure I was quite a pain.) Well, the last night at the farewll party, I cornered him and begged. He asked for my red deck in my hand, set it on the table, cut it and it was now BLUE! I can tell you that if it weren't for a different colored deck, I would have seen nothing.

There are a couple of cooler switches in Super Subtle Card Miracles by Frank Garcia and the switches on the Forte tapes are amazing.

thanks for posting these. i am now sick to my stomach haha. that was unbelievable. i always wondered were to learn deck switches and dice moves. it seems like that stuff is very hard to find information on and i can see why.

in reference to the deck switch video. there is a part were he is showing some shifts on his bed. he cuts the bottom portion to the top and then shifts the deck back to normal. it looks beyond belief. where is it possible to learn these shifts and switches?
