Dealing With It

Postby magicfish » September 25th, 2024, 5:54 pm

Hey folks. Not sure why my secretive nature is allowing me to share this. I'll think on it later over a single malt scotch.
Leveraged Discovery by John Bannon. Oct. 2024 pg 62. fasdiu gold. Enjoy.

I am hugely impressed by John Bannon's work. Two routines from the past year are in my repertoire, October 2023 and February 2024. Even though I have access to the digital edition I always wait for the hard copy to arrive before reading. I'll make an exception following your post.

I've been using John's A View To a Skill since it was first published. As for Very Hush-Hush, best kept hush-hush.

Having edited John's stuff for a while, and proofing it since he started his column, I wish I could remember just half of what I wanted to remember; it's all that good. For those who might recall, I performed a bit of one of his pieces on one of the "More Genii Speaks" videos in 2022 as a teaser for the trick in the issue.

Thanks. I looked these up. Both are very good. I especially like Feb. 24.

It's the column I subscribe for. Not that there aren't other worthwhile columns, but it's my sole reason for subscribing. I'm wondering, since it wasn't mentioned in Jim's piece, if this will be JB's last year as a columnist and if so, when will the collection be published?!

What a great book that would be.

I can confirm that the January issue will contain John's final column. No idea if he will collect the columns in book form.

I am truly sorry to read that. John's column is the first thing I read, and from someone who has a severe allergy to card tricks, that is saying something.

Incidentally in Smack Monte, February 2024, at the end of the routine you have four packets in front of you with an ace on top of each.
Label the packets from your left, A, B, C, D. Set aside the aces. Pick up packet A and place on D. Pick up this new pile and place on C. Pick up the entire C packet and place on B. If you now place the aces on top, the deck is in its original order.

With the Advanced Search in the Conjuring Archive, you can catch the column in a magazine relatively nicely, like in this case:

Thank you Denis. Very useful, as always. Another beer I owe you.

And while we are talking about tricks in GENII, a tip of the hat to Jamy Ian Swiss for his excellent Magicana column currently running.

John's early work in his 2 hardbound books are full of great effects.
