Nothing to say, really, except to loudly echo Tom Frame's sentiment.

Phil Goldstein was one of the first names I learned in magic, from his wonderful packet tricks. Max Maven was the very first name I learned in mentalism due to a mutual friend here in Seattle who put me on the right path.
I can't imagine how he must feel, but maybe we can help him not feel alone.

Re: Sending good thoughts to Max Maven
Please allow me to mention that perhaps the most important time for Max to have company and someone to lean on is right after he leaves the hospital.
Many get depressed after leaving and going home. So, that is a great time to cuddle him so to speak.
Therefore, when he is released, we should focus on bugging the heck out of him?
In essence, keep him very busy so his mind does not have the time to wander into dark places.

I'm not sure if I agree with this at all. Consider that after a serious operation a person may need lots of peace and quiet. Anxious and supportive friends and relatives continually checking in can cause even more stress at the very time the body (and mind) needs time to recuperate.
It could also be the case that the patient would appreciate lots of attention and calls, as you suggest.
In my case I would appreciate being left alone except for very close friends and relatives and even then they'd probably annoy me. But then, by nature I'm an anti-social introvert

Speaking from personal experience, once he feels up for having company, arrange for a viewing party, where professional wrestling is the feature event. He will love that.

Found myself dialing the phone number for Cedars-Sinai Hospital in L.A. a couple minutes ago to inquire as to Max's status. I spoke with one of the nurses caring for him and she reported that he was not only in stable condition, but "doing very well."

I wasn't aware that hospitals release patient status information to strangers over the phone?

Max Maven out of surgery
Max is resting in bed and doing fine. We talked this evening and he told me that the brain tumor was removed and the surgeon's believe they have it all. He will need some time to retrain his vision to adapt a more limited scope, but besides that he is hopeful that he will handle recovery well. He mentioned that he was surprised at the response from those who have e-mailed love and prayers, I told he is a well-loved master of the art and people wanted him to know how much they cared. He leaves the hospital tomorrow.

I was not a "stranger," and nothing unlawful occurred. What is important, is that Max is coming through this so well.

I was curious about this so looked it up.
Distilled from HIPAA, CFR 164.510: HIPAA allows hospitals to maintain a patient directory with location and general condition. Hospitals may provide this information to anyone that asks about a patient by name. Patients are to be given the opportunity to restrict or opt out of the directory.

Re: Sending good thoughts to Max Maven
Thank you for setting the record straight John. I was questioned and then placed on hold for several minutes, while Max was presumably informed that I called and was making an inquiry about his condition. I'll say it again, absolutely nothing illegal occurred, unless care and concern of human beings for one another has now become illegal. The facility where Max is receiving treatment is one of the best and most reputable in the world, and I too, have a reputation to protect.
Not a good one - but a reputation.
