Latta Pass

Postby mrmagik68 » October 6th, 2020, 1:15 am

Hello all,

I know Geoff Latta was mostly known for his coin work. But I've read that Geoff Latta had one of the best Classic Passes out there. Has he ever taught it in print or in video? Thanks.

AFAIK, Latta's pass has not been taught in any video that is commercially available. (However, it is on the underground "Pink Purse" video according to JIS.).

There is one trick of Latta's in print that includes several specialized passes. (in "Spectacle" by Stephen Minch).

Take heart, his classic pass will most probably be included in the promised upcoming volume on Latta's card magic.

Latta did a brilliant Pass. It was done while riffling the deck.
By the way, his card work was as good as his coin work.

Which brings up the inevitable question — does anyone know how far along the production line the Latta card book is?

I know that Minch has been working on the 2 volume set of the third Hofzinser books for over a year.

It's hard to understand that Mr. Latta never put his pass on video. But I look forward to one day seeing his card work in print.

Maybe he did, but it was so good, no one knew it.

It's on the Pink Purse video as noted above, which will be included with the next book.

Geoff also tipped some of the work online a few years ago.

Since everyone who does the Pass well does it differently, it really won't make a difference in what depth Latta's Pass is explained. It was unique to him, just as my Pass is unique to me. If you do the Pass, your handling will be unique to you.

I agree Richard. I think everyone's pass is unique in their own ways.

I first saw Geoff Latta's pass at a NY Magic Symposium. I had never met him, but had heard amazing reports of his pass techniques.

So, I'm walking by a table, there's a couple of guys "doing cards" and one guy is doing an amazing pass. It clicked in my head, I asked him his name and sure enough, it was Latta!

One of the most amazing sessions I ever had, was having the pleasure of introducing Latta to Mike Skinner for the first time, at the Cafeteria in NYC. They amazed each other--and me. It was a mutual admiration club amongst them, to say the least. I still remember some of the material today. Great stuff!

What year did you introduce Latta and Skinner, HocoPoco?
