Big Announcement from The Jerx
Andy's blog is five years old today. And he has marked that moment by finally stepping out of the shadows to reveal his real identity.

No way!
But it would be a huge hilarious hoot if he really is Andy.

Re: Big Announcement from The Jerx
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote:
I think as more about "Andy" becomes known, it becomes apparent that he is quite involved in magic and mentalism, and further that he's no lightweight on either topic.
You may disagree profoundly with his writing style, but it would be a mistake to dismiss his deeper thinking on the subject matter.
I think his readers (fans?) who have been generally receptive to The Jerx since the beginning had already parsed that "Andy" knows of what he speaks, but of note too is that he has also established a solid track record in terms of web publishing, book publishing, and newsletter publishing.
He's not just some hacker throwing crap against the wall, he's a knowledgable magician with a proven track record, and a unique writing style that is (apparently) difficult for some readers to cosy up to.
.....so I'm not at all surprised.

Well, my post in the other Jerx thread just got funnier:

Yehuda wrote:Hmmm.
Derren works with Andy Nyman and with Andrew O’Connor and seems to be a fan of Andy Jerx.
Andy Jerx’s name is Andy, he works with a guy named Andrew Costello and he always says how Derren Brown is his favorite performer.

BTW, it would seem that what were already very limited editions of "Andy's" books and sundry newsletters, etc have suddenly achieved a previously unimaginable value on the used market.

Am I the only one here that doesn’t think this is real?

Re: Big Announcement from The Jerx
Holy cow. Assuming this isn't a huge put-on, it feels really weird having had email conversations with the man - who at one point referred to himself as "nobody of any consequence." If "Andy" HAS managed to fabricate this... well, major kudos!

Good. Just checking.

... or maybe it's Derren fabricating "Andy", proceeding to admit he is "Andy" but ... then Derren will begin to imply that he isn't "Andy" after all (even though he really is Andy) - all in order to undertake the most complex Derren Brown performance piece to date?
We're all part of a massive Derren Brown social experiment, the outcome of which we can't yet imagine?

Similarity in writing style, aside, I rather hope this isn't true. If only so that the site can post weekly "I am Spartacus" videos.

Not Derren. Andy's an American.

Re: Big Announcement from The Jerx
After reading his previous publications, the reveal actually makes a ton of sense. (if true).
I personally think it is, however. Knowing how distrusting the world is now about information--"fake news" and all that--I think the biggest gag would be to tell the truth and no one believes it.

I'm also inclined to believe we're being trolled, but it would be a meta-troll if it turned out to be true.
I love that I really can't be certain. Derren comes across as very sincere and believable in the video, but he's also very capable of doing that, and also cheeky enough to take part in such a stunt. Still, though, it would be really cool if it were so. I truly don't know.
Here's my question: For those of you stating definitively that it's a gag, how do you know that for certain?

Re: Big Announcement from The Jerx
In order for it to be true, you would have to ascribe the original Magic Circle Jerk to Derren as well, and that doesn't fit in quite as well.
Andy clearly wrote both, but Derren makes no mention of it at all. That should be a red flag.

According to his 5/27/15 post, the original MCJ ended at "a very busy time in my life." This would have been in the thick of "Trick of the Mind." He drops another bit of relevant info in that post as well. (There's also a mathematical/numerological/vitamin B2-infused proof... but I won't get into that here. )

For me, the red flag is at one point, Darren has a subtle facial expression which tells you it’s a gag. He was struggling to keep a straight face.
Watch it again carefully and you will see that moment I am referring to which speaks volumes.
And oh...a stunt like this follows the profile and offbeat nature of the Jerx.

Exactly. If you've been following Andy for a long time, there are just common references and assumptions in the content of the writing and the style that are definitely American, and a decided lack of automatic references and assumptions that would be British. And the adolescent sensibility that Andy portrays is an American adolescent, not a British one. Too many details of that kind of upbringing that I don't believe anyone not American would come up with.

i think there's about as much chance of "Andy" being Derren Brown as there is of American comedian, Chris Rock, being Queen Elizabeth.

You're all so quick to write off the most obvious conclusion: Derren has an identical (and rather mischievous) twin, also named Derren.
