Alan Shaxon devised the disc vanish that Tom Cruise performed in the first Mission Impossible movie, and clearly Penn doesn’t know the method.

Avner the Eccentric did something akin to what's in The Prestige in his stage act. From side to side of the stage around behind the back curtain.
