Re: Last magic shop in New England closes
It is a world of instant downloads and mail order now. If you want those two shops to survive, visit and more importantly BUY something.
If not, they might be following suit. Many magic shops stay afloat because they also sell costumes, gag gifts, etc. If they try to survive only on magic, it is a tough road.
St. Louis at one time had around 5 magic shops. One owner had three stores, and there were two others. I believe we are down to one and it is nothing compared to what we had back in the day.

In this neck of the woods Department Store chains are falling like dominoes - if these large business are unable to sustain a bricks & mortar offering then I’m not surprised small independent ‘niche’ shops are similarly challenged.

Unfortunately, trying to compete with Penguin/Murphy's is tough for any shop. Trying to provide huge stock and good prices is difficult for any brick and mortar shop. The way "new" and shiny things are released daily, a small shop can't keep up.

They may have to reconsider at some point.

I know Murphy's doesn't retail, but have been told there's a fine line between Murphy's and Penguin.
