Very sorry to learn that Gary Darwin of Las Vegas, has passed away. He was the ambassador, cheerleader, and welcoming committee for magic in Las Vegas.
He had a remarkable collection, including pertaining to those who performed in Las Vegas over the decades.
I will always remember his friendly welcome and going to his magic club, that met a midnight, for decades.

Gary was a good guy. Any trips I made to or through Las Vegas always had to include Wednesday nights at his magic club. There were usually local regulars and visiting magicians. He will be missed.

I only met him a couple of times. He was quite a character. I think it's more than fair to say that, if not for Lance Burton, Gary Darwin's Final Curtain would have taken place quite a few years ago.

Years ago, to be honest decades ago, he did a lecture in Santa Rosa focusing mainly on the thumb tip. It was time well spent. But what I found most interesting was how much pride he took in being the Nevada state handball champion.
Not the one who created the Potter Index.

I believe he was also a champion body builder in his youth as well.

When I went to Vegas, I always attended Gary's midnight magic club—it was a highlight of the trip for me.
I met Copperfield there for the first time—good memories.
You are missed Gary!

I remember once visiting Gary at his home and I was amazed when he showed photos of himself, as he said, "When I was a gym bum, always at the gym, working out." Looking like the "after" photo of a Charles Atlas ad! Impressive.
I remember one time when Gary's club met at The Colonial House on Las Vegas Blvd., I saw Siegfried there, and I noted years before, I had met both of them within a few hours, when each had gone inside the sideshow I was working, at the Nevada State fair, at Cashman Field in Las Vegas.
Someone elsewhere put it correctly, that Gary Darwin, WAS magic in Las Vegas.
