The obvious magic connection for this is David Copperfield.
The second magic connection is that "My Favorite Martian" star Bill Bixby went on to star in "The Magician".
The third connection is that the Martian, Ray Walston, played a magican named Jasper in another Bill Bixby series, "The Incredible Hulk", in an episode titled "My Favorite Magician."

Didn't DC also have a stage routine involving a search for an alien?

It was my first magic set - happily, I still have a few of the pieces. Sadly, I don't have the box.

And yes, David's current show has a big set piece revolving around an alien named Blu. (Previously, Attila.)

Re: David Copperfield bought "My Favorite Martian" spaceship
The My Favorite Martian magic set was one of the last sets made by the A.C. Gilbert Company before it went out of business a year or two later.
It's an excellent set, with many pieces (in plastic) that had previously been available only in French sets many decades earlier.
A.C. Gilbert was already dead at that point (he's selected the contents of all the previous Mysto Magic Sets), and I've never been able to find the person who created that set.
