That was invented by Gustav The Unwary, who also invented "Shoes to Silks," and "Sitting On A Porcupine." He can be seen here performing his signature effect, "Chair Stuck On Knee," :

He died on stage when the "Sitting On A Porcupine" effect went terribly wrong.

It is also a little-known fact in the archives of magic that he performed the "Porcupine Trick that Fooled Houdini." During a S.A.M. session, after Houdini performed his famed Needle Trick to blank stares, Gustav one-upped Harry by swallowing a porcupine whole, which, upon regurgitation, was seen to have transformed into a white rabbit.

It's a bad practical joke, not a trick.
It's very old.
No one knows who invented it.
