Thank you, Craig, for all this. Can you tell me if the other places have been announced yet and, if not, when they will be?

The awards system is out of synch at FISM.

Rather than have the awards ceremony in the morning followed by Grand Prix finale in the evening - they’ve strangely opted instead to have the Grand Prix Finals first and awards ceremony second.

This is non-sensical.

1 - the finalists were all informed via email last night that they are in the finals. This robs them of the surprise and the results are leaked. The first place winners were posted on Facebook this morning already (!) by certain of the competitors.

2 - there is no build up to the reveal of the finalists being first place winners as Grand Prix competitors are automatically first place winners in their respective categories. We also now know which categories don’t have any first prize winners.

3 - it diminishes the achievement of the second and third place winners. All attention goes straight on the finalists.

Hi Craig,

first of all, thank you very much for keeping us informed about FISM 2018. Reading your reports makes me really want to attend another FISM in 2021 in Quebec.

About the awards:
In Lisbon 2000, 1st place comedy wasn't rewarded to any act, Scott and Muriël were in that category, didn't win a prize, but they were announced Worldchampions.
Has that changed in the next FISMs? Is the new Worldchampion of Magic also a first prize winner in their category?

Hope to see you in 3 years
Thanks again

To be eligible for the Grand Prix you must have scored 80 or above in your respective category. I am unsure what the status was in Lisbon.

Did something happen in Grand Prix finals?!? Cheung had over 90 points and yet a Eric Chien from 82 points came and won?!?! :o In all honesty only way that should be able to happen is that Cheung messed up or his act didnt stand 2nd viewing since over 90 points in FISM is really really really really really RARE!

The Grand Prix contest is a brand new contest featuring all the first place winners. Prior scores are erased and performers are judged again.
