I wonder if the biker bar frequented by Mr Farmer will be rebuilt in time...

The last time there was a major international convention in Canada there were a lot of problems with customs and immigration and I believe the hotel workers went on strike.

The biker bar will be rebuilt. It was formerly the hangout for Satan's Choice:

I've formed a new group, Satan's Second Choice.

I very rarely post here but having attended 9 FISMs in the past, the last 7 in a row until this one, I was surprised to find out that the next site has already been selected. We are only 2 days into the meeting and the selection has already been made? Normally the final selection is completed on Friday and by Saturday people can begin to register for the next meeting. I had received a request from the Spanish to vote to have the next meeting in Valladolid in 2021. Well, that is decided now. Enough said!

I think the selection of Quebec in Canada is a very good option. I know the Canadians will host a very good meeting and will be well organized. Hopefully, it will not be hijacked again by “The Masters of Magic”. I understand, there are already banners with this organization’s name in BUSAN. Unfortunately the last 3 FISMs: Beijing, Blackpool and Rimini—now called World Championships of Magic—did not met the expectations set by those in Dresden, Lisbon and The Hague. Stockholm had its problems, namely that they just barely finished the convention center in time and there was a great distance between the headquarter’s hotel and the convention venue.

Well, I will be looking forward to registering if it is indeed in Quebec in 2021.

The General Assembly was moved to Tuesday rather than its normal Saturday slot.

This ostensibly had more to do with internal politics with regards to the vice-president ballot so as to minimize available campaign time for the outside contenders.

How is seating assigned? Will I get a better seat if I register early? Does FISM sell out? How big is this convention? Is it anything like the Genii Convention?

Lot of questions :) Thanks

The dates for FISM in Quebec are July 26 to 31, 2021.
(The email sent out today to those who registered misidentifies the dates as May 3-6, 2019).

It's nothing like the Genii convention.

FISM is centered around its contests, which take up a good chunk of the day.

It's also not like any other convention you've been to, because there are usually 2500 people and they do not even come close to fitting everyone into the room for the close-up competition, which you will likely have to watch on a monitor from some other location. Ditto for lectures.

It's like MAGIC live in that you have to choose between the things to see--you cannot see everything.

It's also 6 days long, which is insane.

I find there are far too many Canadians in Canada and far too many magicians at Magician's conventions so I won't be going.

1370 early bird registrations for a convention that will be held in three years from now!

I think it's a new record!

1370 ..................... what currency?????? certainly not either € or $.

I paid $610 Canadian dollars which worked out slightly less than €400
It is possible that that early bird price is over since 31st July.

Further and correct information can be had by visiting the site below.
https://www.fismquebec2021.com/

Hope this helps and maybe I'll see you in Quebec in July 2021.

John, I believe he's referring to the number of people who have preregistered already.

The Canadian dollar is so weak, that the registration price is probably one of the lowest for a FISM.

Ah! that makes perfect sense, humble apologies to Richard Tremblay.
Just goes to show I should have gone to bed earlier instead of "One last peek at the internet".

Thanks for putting me right.
