Digital Sphinx
Digital Sphinx
Can anyone tell me how the two versions out there differ? If they differ at all?
Re: Digital Sphinx
One difference is that the Lybrary.com version comes with a 540 page index that spans all 52 volumes of the Sphinx. It is a very useful thing to have. More details about the index are here https://www.lybrary.com/the-sphinx-index-p-86.html

Re: Digital Sphinx
I just wish it had been $50 when I bought it. The price dropped CONSIDERABLY once the CARC version became available.
Oddly enough, I still got my money's worth (but ouch!).

I have the Lybrary.com edition and I am very happy with it. I do find the index quite handy.

I greatly prefer reading my bound copies of the original paper printing. Sure, for research it's great to be able to search for something. But when reading for pleasure, I always read paper.

In case of The Sphinx, that luxury is only afforded to very few. And those few who do have a complete paper file of the Sphinx will probably worry that it turns to dust with every brittle page turn.

That's nonsense: my pages do not crumble each time I turn them.

I worked with three files to prepare the digital Sphinx and all were very brittle in the first volumes, often with loose pages, parts of pages missing, etc.

Thank you for the response. I will be ordering soon! Richard, I prefer the physical magazine myself but the expense of a full file would be out of reach.

Re: Digital Sphinx
I have the Lybrary edition and I'm quite pleased with the quality of the scans. I'd prefer to have paper, but lack the space for a complete file. I'd have to order a whole new bookcase.
Re: Digital Sphinx
It has been said before, the fact that one can search a digital edition is a million times more useful than holding paper in hands. Many of my customers who do have various complete paper files of magazines and journals still buy the digital edition so that they can search and find interesting articles. Being able to search is not only useful for lofty research purposes but very practical for other things, like finding what you know you read 10 years ago but can't find by paging through it.
