Credit Card To Wallet
I'm working on a new routine where a spectator's credit card vanishes and appears in my wallet. This seems like an obvious effect: has anyone else explored this?

I’ll ask Mrs AJM - from my credit card statements it seems she has found a way to do this.

Re: Credit Card To Wallet
Bob,
This is the only version of Card to Wallet that ever made sense to me. Problem is you would want the card to appear in a standard credit card slot and I don't know any wallet that allows that (and it's not as impossible as a zippered compartment, etc.)
I used to have a Real Man's Wallet, which lived in my left front pocket. If I wanted to do a trick, I would reach in and secretly extract my driver's license, and pass it behind my back into right hand palm. I would borrow a spectator's license in my left hand, do the Crossing the Gaze switch, and load the spectator's license into your wallet as you bring it out. At that point I would "notice" that their license was actually mine, and then we discovered that their license was in my wallet.
This is very practical, at least.

Re: Credit Card To Wallet
Andrew, we need your wife's method.
Pete: I don't think it's crucial for the card to arrive in a credit card slot, though that would be nice. As long as it arrives in an impossible position (i.e., inside a zippered compartment) that works for me.
It's the vanish that's more problematical. I made a 12" double black silk with a credit card inside. The spectator's card goes under the silk. The spectator holds the gaff while you steal the real credit card as you go for the wallet.

I think Mr. McCabe is on the right track. It's more effective to switch the credit card while inspecting it, than "vanish" it.

Re: Credit Card To Wallet
In New York Magic Symposium, Collection Two, Paul Harris has a trick named License (page 87) in which there is a transposition betwen spectator's license and magician's license with the help of the magician's wallet.
Perhaps, it's adaptable to your project ?
If you haven't this book, you can find the trick in The Art of Astonishment, Vol. 1, page 275.
Good luck.

Also in Best of Friends, Vol. 3, there is a trick named Restored Card to Wallet by Ammar & Plants in which a tear card becomes a credit card and the mutiled card is restored in the wallet.

Re: Credit Card To Wallet
Billy McComb had a very early version which was in effect a transposition - a spectators credit card was placed under a handkerchief to vanish as spectator held it. It didn't vanish. As it was uncovered Billy 'realised' that the credit card held was now his... he said "well, that must mean...." (taking out his wallet and opening it to reveal a credit card in one of the cellophane pockets).... "that this one must be yours" which was verified by the spectator.
Definitely in his lecture notes if not one of his books as well.
He always claimed that he started doing this very soon after credit cards were introduced and believed it to be one of the first effects that used a credit card

Mark Leveridge sells a cut and restored credit card that vanishes and appears in the magicians wallet. He did this in his lectures in the nineties. The method is practical and it fooled me.

I posted an impromptu version of this on the Perverse Magic thread of this forum (under General) on June 1, 2008 called "Credit Card Transposition"

Re: Credit Card To Wallet
Those are excellent references, thank you.
I wanted to keep the effect as simple as possible, so a transposition is out. The double hank with the credit card gaff inside solves a lot of issues. I'm working out how best to steal the real card and I think I've got a procedure that allows both hands to be apparently empty before I go for the wallet.
I will advise.
In the meantime, anyone know who can make a good double hank? My prototype needs work.

Ted Lesley had a version where a credit card appeared between the layers of a playing card in the wallet. I think the playing card might have been a chosen one.

Thanks for the tips. Richard--it's not a Devil's Hank. I'll send you details.
Re: Credit Card To Wallet
It is really not needed... The hank that is. I hate to say this but I have pretty much the perfect wall for this. Oh well....Surprise...

Re: Credit Card To Wallet
Garrett Thomas has an eye-popping version of this plot. I saw him do it at the last Genii Bash, but I don't think he has published it yet. It is an incredible routine.

Re: Credit Card To Wallet
Does the Thomas routine use just the spectator's credit card? Other routines I've seen use the spectator's card and then something additional like another card (the magician's) or an envelope, etc. I'm interested in routines that use just the spectator's card and the wallet--so the trick is not, say, a transposition.
