What's the 3rd party hosting to do with this?
Re: The August Issue of Genii is Now Live Online
Photobucket until recently let you upload a picture on their site so it could be seen on another site for free. That is no longer free, you have to subscribe to a plan and pay for the usage.

Quentin, you have access to the digital edition.
Are you just referring to the photo I have in my post above? Photobucket doesn't charge me anything.

Yes, the image above which has the wording, "Please update your account to enable third party hosting."
I always browse through the digital issue when it is posted but wait for the hard copy to read.

Richard, you may see the Photobucket image, but Photobucket is not displaying the image to us.
Also, page 107 is missing from the digital issue!
I was pleasantly surprised to hear your impressions of the live Blaine show in More Genii Speaks. It's great for magic when our most prominent figures stretch themselves and deliver so well.
I miss Max's audio column!

You cannot see the large image of the cover I have in my post? How bizarre is that!
And you're right: page 107 is missing. Dang.

I can see it now.
Photobucket recently changed its fee for third-party hosting from $0/yr to $399/yr. Showing the "please upgrade your account" image instead of a user's stored image is their way of informing subscribers of that fact.
The increase has prompted some criticism from users.

I found page 107 in the paper issue tipped in. Thank God I purchased my issue at my local Magic shop! Thank you Richard!

phpBB backed forums (like this one) can be configured so there's no need to third party host images at all. Just set the upload quota (via the admin panel) to "0" (unlimited) give it a name on your server where the files will live and voila, you instantly are able to cleanly drag images (or other files if designated) directly into a post).
The relevant option (from the admin panel) to keep from running against a set quota is this:

Total attachment quota:
Maximum drive space available for attachments for the whole board, with 0 being unlimited.

Chris, thanks for the advice, but I don't think we allow that because the forum is already a memory hog on our server.

Hm, that would surprise me. Back in the day, I was official support for phpBB for a few years and can't remember this ever being an issue. It's computationally inexpensive to serve images from local storage (which is what happens on any usual web page and is what web servers are optimized for) and file storage is generally (even on a dirt cheap shared web host like mine) super abundant and cheap.
The huge upside here is that you have control of uploaded images or files. You're never at the mercy of some third party image hosting site that could arbitrarily decide to delete or make your images unavailable (as happened in this very thread).

Re: The August Issue of Genii is Now Live Online
I noticed my pictures I have posted in the past via Photobucket are vanished. I have no intention to upgrade my Photobucket account so I'm wondering now how to post a picture on this great forum because we all know a picture tells more than thousand words......

Start a wordpress blog and upload pictures there, and hotlink to them from here.
Tweet a picture and do likewise.
