A presentational/theory (perhaps) question:
Before performing the Gypsy Thread effect
do you hand out the thread for examination?
Why or why not?

Re: A Gypsy Thread Question
I haven't done Gypsy Thread in a while but see no reason to hand out the string. Lonnie Chevrie has a clever routine using a box of dental floss that I might work on soon.

Re: A Gypsy Thread Question
I don't understand the basic question there - in terms of what it would do to the show if you started passing around the props before tricks.

Re: A Gypsy Thread Question
Why on earth would you pass out the thread and put ideas in the minds of the audience? Don't run when nobody is chasing you.

Re: A Gypsy Thread Question
I agree. Do not pass out the thread....but....
On occasion, just for fun, I have broken off the length of dental floss for my own routine and handed the participant the dental floss container which I used. That seemed to convey...nothing special here. It also made sense because it freed up my hands to work with the floss. Peace....Fred (Reisz)

Start by breaking off a length of thread from the bobbin. That's more than enough "evidence" that all is as it should be.

Re: A Gypsy Thread Question
Thanks everybody. There is a new GT out whose selling point is "you can start by passing the thread out for examination!" which I thought was the worst idea ever but just wanted to check.

Re: A Gypsy Thread Question
The way to do it, if you insist, is to toss someone the spool of thread and ask him to break off a piece of thread about "so long," showing him the length with your arms spread. Have him hand you the thread in one hand and the spool in the other, pocket the spool and begin. Do NOT mention "examining the thread."

Re: A Gypsy Thread Question
I would print the restaurants logo and glue it to the dental floss case. After diner I would walk up to the table and offer complimentary dental floss to everyone but only give them a small 3-4 inch piece. Taking all the pieces back after a few funny comments I would join them into one long piece.

Hmmmmm. Not for me, but a Karrell Fox type performer might could make that work.

No, the new improved Gypsy Thread version apparently lets you hand out the thread for examination before the T&R . "Please make sure that the thread is all one continuous piece and that the spool is not prepared in such a way as to let me appear to put a bunch ot torn pieces back together," I guess is the presentation purchasers are looking forward to doing. Wow, imagine how surprised the audience will be when you then proceed to ... RESTORE THE BROKEN THREAD! Ta-da!
