Looking for a New Editor for "Magicana" in Genii
Andi Gladwin has informed me that he will cease to produce "Magicana" later this year. He's done a great job the past few years, but now we must look for someone else.
The requirements are many:
1. Must have good contacts.
2. Must be able to write magic and sleight of hand very well.
3. Must be able to provide excellent clear digital photos for the tricks.
4. Must be able to provide a video to accompany the column for the digital edition.
Suggestions are welcome.

You may consider Ultramodern as my application for the job.

Yes thanks Andi. I have really enjoyed the column. Big shoes to fill.

You did a great job, Andi!
You kept the flame of a remarkable column burning on your watch. And leave it burning as brightly as ever as you look for somebody new to pass it on to.
As another former trick columnist might say: "Onwards..."

Thanks for all your work, Andi! Enjoyed it very much!
As far as suggestions, here are some that come to mind: (Disclaimer: I don't know these guys personally, so I'm not sure how feasible these suggestions are in terms of their lives/personality outside of their previous published works)
1. Gene Taylor. I thought he did a great job with Antinomy, and I especially like the way he introduced me to the work of a lot of fine magicians with whom I was not familiar.
2. Steve Beam. Obviously in the loop with a lot of creators, is able to persuade them to part with material, and is a very talented writer (and makes me laugh consistently).
3. Stephen Hobbs. Has the chops, connections, and excellent taste in material. His technical toolbox shows he is able to teach.
4. Aaron Fisher. Old school connections. Has Castle cred. Loves to teach. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but while I don't agree with his takes on everything, I appreciate the passion he has for the art. Not sure if he's good at wheedling material out of others.

Here's another idea: having a non-North American Magicana editor might help open up a whole new world of talented creators to a wider audience. That's not to say that Genii doesn't already do this to a certain extent, but I'd also be interested in reading about more material peeking it's head above the underground on the other continents.

To a certain extent, you had that for the last few years with Andi and me. While your point has merit, with the global communication through the web these days, borders are becoming less important. I think over half of the items I wrote up were from the US.

Steve Beam is great suggestion, particularly as he's now retired from his day job.
Trouble is I have a feeling he might be working on Semi-Automatic Card Tricks: The Finale. Part One that is.

My sincere apologies to you Mr. Kendall (and Andi)--I must have had a brain malfunction when dashing off that post (with regards to your countries of origin), and your point Re: global communication is very well taken.
What I was thinking was perhaps having one of the editors be someone whose first language is not English, might be able to seek out and translate some interesting, new material that is currently not available in English.
In any event, I would reiterate my appreciation of your and Andi's efforts in keeping the high standards of Magicana going strong!

Thanks for the comments
I'm not sure a non-native speaker is optimal; writing technical prose is hard enough, it must be a nightmare to do it in a second language (Tom Stone notwithstanding).
I think a more practical approach would be to have several curators in other language areas, who feed back to the main editor. Which is not far from the status quo, to be honest...

I have a long list of potential candidates.
Doesn't mean that any of them could easily find the time to produce a monthly column.

Wow, that was fast.
Well, I'll take a moment as well to say thanks to Andi. I thought he did an excellent job. The tricks were always interesting, and I could feel his personal touch and interest in the column's overall identity.
Look forward to hearing who the new editor is.
