Astro-Coin: Only for the Rich Collector

Postby Richard Kaufman » March 26th, 2013, 9:43 pm

There's an Astro Coin on eBay right now, with an insane bidding war going on:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321095918918?ss ... 1426.l2649

In fact, there are lots of Tenyo auctions at the moment with totally nutso prices!

The item is clearly not complete and excellent. And it's Japanese matchbox with English package.

So I would like to know is if the American version is normally supplied with a "protecto" matchbox or if both version are supplied with japanese matchbox ( like the one on this auction and like on my japanese version)

The version with the "protecto" box wich pop-up last year on ebay was may be a fake and does not exist ?

I think Richard to see both versions and can enlighten us about this point.
Ps: if someone have English instruction of Astro Coin, Pm me, I'd be happy to have a copy.

Stereo, the only item which appears to be missing from the Astro-Coin on eBay is most of the matches. I used to have one of these, and I believe the matchbox was the same for both the US and Japanese versions.

This trick was invented by Werry in the 1950s, and it has been sold by many magic dealers for decades. It would be very easy for someone to take one of those and put it into the Tenyo Box if they had an empty box. I know that the Japanese matchbox is the one which Tenyo sold.

Keep in mind that for many this kind of money is
literally insignificant.

Perhaps, but I don't know many Tenyo collectors for whom this amount is insignificant.

$972!!

I'm sorry, for a cheap card box, a cheap match box, a couple of matches, and a couple of coins and instructions, I would say 1 large is pretty significant!!

Although the same can be said for comic books, baseballs cards, and other seemingly worthless articles.

You can write out the name eBay here with no problem, and you can also post a link to your auction.

It's already at over $500 with six days to go!

I guess he was also just trying to make you pay more, and was left holding the bag.

The seller is then supposed to file a "non-paying bidder" complaint with eBay, and get the buyer who backed out kicked off.

However, very often the person bidding against you is a friend of the seller who's making shill bids to drive up the price. When you see an item close at a high price, and it's relisted quickly, this is often the case.

I can assure you this is not the case here.

I'm quite angry with the winner right now because he could not explain to me why he placed bids if he knew he does not have enough money to actually pay for the item.

Then you should file a "non-paying bidder" complaint with eBay.

Non-winning bidders are not obligated to accept second-chance offers.

The price for Tenyo items has been dropping steadily over the past year and a half.

As you already know the winning bidder backed out. So the Astro coin is available for sale again at ebay. The starting bid is 1 dollars and there is no reserve price.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tenyo-Magic-T-4 ... 1572601828

(The ebay system does not allow me to open a case now against the winner because I have already started to cancel the transaction in order to be able to relist it. He still hasn't accepted this cancellation despite the fact that he requested it. It is very hard to communicate with him, he barely speaks English. I do not want to deal with him any more and asked him to not bid at the auction again.)

It's a good thing that Tenyo prices have been dropping. I think a reset of the market helps to attract new collectors. Also you might say that true Tenyo collectors don't care what they're worth. I think speculators and greedy collectors will feel a market adjustment the most.

Keep in mind however that often Tenyo closings will have no rhyme or reason to them. One auction something goes for stupid money and the next something goes for next to nothing.

I think the book is going to cause prices to soar...
