Ah. Well if anyone else can try it with the Skinner tapes, let me know if it works and I'll try to do the rest of them.

Worked perfectly when I loaded mine to iTunes. Thanks Joe!!

I would pay for a CD of Mike's blue jokes.

Awesome.

As I slowly go through downloading them to my own iTunes, I'll try to remember to commit them back up. The listing of topics don't quite line up to the tracks. Some tracks have multiple topics, some topics cross into multiple tracks and sometimes you have to back up to the previous track to find out what topic is starting. So it takes a bit of work to do.

Also, some track cuts occur mid sentence which may cause a mid-sentence pause on some less-sophisticated digital players.

Yup. So the title of the tracks don't always start where indicated. You may have to back up a bit, but they should be helpful in getting you close to the spot if you are looking for something specific.

CD 2 is now uploaded.

I have been listening to these disks. There is a gold mine of information contained in this product. This is the best deal in magic going right now. I have a question for Richard. Who was/is "The Strangler" ???

I have no idea who "The Strangler" is. There were more references to the anonymous character that I edited out--too much got annoying. But I left in just a few because that made it interesting.

Glad you're enjoying it!

I've listened to the first 4 of the Skinner CDs, and they are magnificent.

I've written previously about how much I ha dlooked forward to the Skinner DVDs from (now available from Meir Yedid Magic), since I had never seen him perform, and how shocked I was to see this legend with shaky hands and indistinct speech (because of medication he was taking). It took some tim for me to get over that shock and appreciate the wonderful material on the videos.

The Skinner set represents him in a more robust period of his life. The recordings were made for his freiend Allen Okawa, so the discussions are on a very high level. Michael was a voracious reader of magic books and took notes, so he can, for example, list the page numbers in Tarbell 1-6 containing effects he uses. The same for Expert Card Technique, Greater Magic and other books.

Full effects are described from his notebook, and tips and handlings from people like Dai Vernon, Larry Jennings and others, which tricks were favored by, say, Bill Malone, Francis Carlyle and other lumanaries, and tons of other stuff.

This is a bounty of material from a magician under-represented on my bookshelves, and the world of magic is fortunate that Richard and Allen Okawa are making the set available.

I can't wait to get back and listen some more. (And watch! And read!)

I assume that the following ebay offering is bogus:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Michael-Skinner-Professional-Close-Up-Magic-1-2-3-4-DVD-10-hour-of-instruction-/111427979188?pt=Classic_Toys_US&hash=item19f1a007b4
Am I correct?

I'm not sure what you mean by "bogus" -- see here.

They're Malaysian copies. Four DVDs for $30.00--a dead giveaway.

They're the videos he made for A-1, now sold by Meir Yedid. Not good.

I managed to sneak in a little time to watch the DVDS from this set. The video quality of the first DVD wasn't great so I jumped to the second disk called Private Session 1988 or 89. Absolutely fantastic video of Skinner sitting at the table alongside Roger Klause, Chuck Smith and Larry Jennings. The look on Jennings' face was priceless when Skinner unveiled the punch line for "Silas and the City Slickers." Skinner's version of the Clock Trick was direct and strong. I'm going to have to re-watch his explanation for this effect.

Skinner also performs Alex Elmsley's "Boston Two Step" coin effect and afterwards discusses his love of Elmsley's magic. He mentions that Elmsley's magic is scattered all over the literature and points out the difficulty in tracking it all down. This was obviously before the publication of The Collected Works. His handling of Peter Samelson's "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" makes you want to pull out that set of Wild Cards in the drawer and go over this trick. I also liked the way he segued from this effect to Jazz Aces using four identical Aces and the four Jacks from Body Snatchers. Skinners thoughts on cleaning up after performing packet effects are great.

Did you listen to any of the audio? That's the heart of the set.

I haven't heard the audio portion. I know they are the meat and potatoes of this set, I just haven't made the time for it so far. The only CD player I currently have is in my laptop and listening to Skinner talk while checking my e-mails and reading the Forum here is too much for me. I plan on getting some type of portable CD player in the near future and start listening to the disks.
