Thoughts & Prayers for Louie

Postby mai-ling » February 28th, 2013, 2:33 pm

I've not been active here very much.
Especially the past week.
However, I've been updating my facebook
and my father's FB page as to what has been
happening.

Please continue to keep my father in
your thoughts and prayers as he makes
his transition to a new life to be with
my mom and all his friends.

Thank you.

For those of us non-Facebook types, what's going on Mai-ling?

Louie had a heart attack that went undiagonsed for several days. I haven't seen the latest update, but I believe his health is failing rapidly.

Thank you all.

Just to update you on what happened since his
massive heart attack last week.

He was able to be stabilize to come home but
the Physical Therapist thought he should have
rehab instead of coming home. So we had him
go to a short-term rehab facility down from
the hospital. I was there when he arrived
until he went to bed. Came back the next morning
after his PT eval and talked over the goals.
Dad was willing to work hard to come home
as that was his goal to see his grand daughter
grow up.

The plan was a minimum of 2 weeks. I would be
there every night to have dinner with him,
have some family time (myself and with Eric
and Lilly On-Ling), then tuck him to bed as
I have been doing for the past 15 years.

We had a family dinner night: dad, myself,
my husband Eric and Lilly On-Ling. He was
very thrilled and joyous to see Lilly.
After dinner we sat in the Library and watched
TV until he was ready to go to bed.

Everything was fine when we left him. Then
the next morning I received a phone call
that he was unresponsive and not alert after
they got him out of bed and in the dining room
for breakfast.

At first we thought he was just tired from
everything. But when I arrived I knew he was
no longer with us. He was semi-comatose. He
had had another stroke. Probably from the clot
that broke from the MI and traveled to his brain.

He was placid on the right leg. His eyes non-reactive.
I knew he wouldn't come out of it. So we
have him in comfort and care at a beautiful
and 'green' hospice facility in NW Chicago.

He is well taken care and we are there everyday
as I tell him all of the love surrounding him
from his family and all the people from
around the world who has been inspired by him
in every aspect of magic and sportsmanship.

I will keep you all updated here.

Our prayers are with all of you... I know how it feels... We lost Mom 9 months ago and Dad 7 years ago... Be strong for your girl now, and tell her when she is old enough about her Great Family. Don't let her forget about her Legacy...
