Arrived in Tucson, AZ yesterday (1/22). What a great issue! If this issue is not incentive enough to subscribe, I can not imagine what would be.

This is one of the most valuable issues in a while. The details on how to do a proper Zarrow shuffle and the shuffle's remarkable history are must reading for anyone remotely interested in card magic.

My only disappointment was the confirmation that Teller plans to use guys as the witches in Macbeth. My favorite version of Macbeth was at the Old Globe in San Diego the summer that they used beautiful naked blondes as the witches (I think they were actually wearing body stockings, but we got the idea). That, I think, might be more appealing to the target audience of 15-year-old boys who like horror movies.

Oh Steve, you do have a one track mind. :) I bet your dream production of MacBeth would have Melinda cloned to play all three witches in the nude.

Great issue folks,

Glad to see Herb Zarrow and his work get its due respect. Also good to see some advance notice on the Teller production of Macbeth.

the demographic who like texting, type in shorthand and might possibly have seen the Dr Who episode from last season which featured Shakespeare as a pop star of his time... maybe. Come on - the good stuff happens while the drunken night watchman is getting up to answer the door - not quite the way horror movies are presented. ;)

However, this grup is hoping to get to attend a performance while the show's in NJ :)

Arrived in Copenhagen today. Couldn't put the issue down - the correspondance between Marlo and Zarrow is simply riveting.

On page 80 it says "see the six page letter reproduced on these pages", however the letter seems to be missing ?

A truly lovely issue.

And congratulation to Richard Kaufman on his 10 year anniversary as Genii editor/publisher :)

Rats! That six-page Marlo letter took another two pages in the magazine, and we simply ran out of space for the article (24 pages seemed enough!) so we deleted the Marlo letter at the last minute. We neglected to take out the mention in the text.

I don't have the article in front of me - I gave my copy of Genii to a friend earlier this afternoon - but I imagine that you are referring to a letter in which Marlo illustrated a variety of multiple cut sequences for getting into the shuffle, sequences that he submitted to Jay Marshall for the New Phoenix. Marlo used his typical mode of illustration - dividing the deck into four blocks (A-B-C-D) to illustrate the movement of the various blocks during the pre-shuffle cutting sequence. I had assumed that Richard was going to include a page or two from this letter as visual support material for the article but never expected for him to reproduce the entire missive. In my opinion, the cut sequences are somewhat convoluted. I understand, however, that some may be interested in this sort of detail and will consider various options for reproducing the letter either more fully in the Zarrow book or through an alternate medium.

Frankly, I'm pleased that many of you have the interest and have taken the time to read the piece. So, thanks.

Feburary edition of Genii arrived here in Ireland today ............... and on first glance it appears to be a truely terrific issue packed with move and shuffle "goodies", interviews and articles.

It must be a mammoth task every month for its production crew, writers, editors and printers.

Add to that ...............its always on time.

Well Done!! everyone on the Genii staff.

Cheers from the Emerald Isle,
John Bowden......the Irish Magician

Arrived in Sherman Oaks, CA on January 22. The center spread came loose on my copy but in perfect condition otherwise.

For my money, this particular issue alone is worth the price of a subscription.

Hats off to the Genii staff and contributing writers.

Got mine a few days ago. Cover was stapled misaligned with the rest of the magazine, so it rides up just enough to make it feel really awkward while reading it. Great issue though.

I don't know what is wrong with the people at my printing plant. We are purposefully NOT doing 128 page issues so the center pages won't pop off the staples.

The February issue was only 112 pages, and the damn center page popped off on my own copy as well.

Rest assured that they know there's a problem (Genii wasn't the only magazine they produce that was affected) and are trying to rapidly fix it so they don't lose customers.

Bob, it has to do with your local post office. The second-class periodical mail is delivered to them and it sits there until they decided that "today is the day," for whatever reason.

Mine came a few days ago, staples are holding quite nicely. Kudos also on the paper quality.
Henry (cat)knocked over a diet coke during the night, and rather than hitting the carpet, it landed on the Genii mag where I'd laid it when visited by Morpheus. When I awoke several hours later, the liquid was still puddled on the cover which is now a bit wrinkled, but no seepage into the actual content.

The Zarrow article was awesomely good, both parts.
I've been doing it wrong for years but getting away with it. (I learned it from the Shank book, actually.)

I've heard from the printer today that it's actually not the staples, but the paper itself. Because of the increase in postage over the past year, publishers have demanded paper that weighs less. That, coupled with rising paper prices, has led the printer to try different paper stocks--and sometimes this has unexpected results!

I apologize for this, however you can use the tiniest drop of glue to fix the paper, then pull the staples open, replace the page, then force them shut again. That's what I did with my copy.
