Very different venue from what he typically does. It'll be worth a trip to NYC to see what he comes up with.

Wow, that's a much bigger venue to fill than his normal 20 seats at the Waldorf - over 2,800 seats at Carnegie Hall. Good luck Steve!

The Waldorf venue doesn't sit only 20 people. It's more like 40.

Re: Steve Cohen at Carnegie Hall
I saw Steve perform at the Clayton Opera House a couple of years ago and the show was great. The place was sold out as far as I could tell. As you will see, this is a large venue.

Bob:
Did he do any grand illusion there or was it still parlour type magic?

From the article: "Steve Cohen is the first magician in 38 years to perform at the venerable venue." Who performed there 38 years ago?

Although the article says the show sold out in three days, the ticket sale site shows 2 $100 tickets are currently available if someone acts quickly:

I Asked Alexander (who knows all) and he said Kreskin and the Scottish comedy magician John Shearer both appeared at Carnegie Hall in 1973.

Re: Steve Cohen at Carnegie Hall
I was curious about "Scottish comedy magician John Shearer", never having heard of him. Here's about all I could find, other than scattered references to him having been a rock drummer at one point (and a Tommy Cooper fan).

Wonder what brought him to Carnegie Hall (other than "practice")?

Re: Steve Cohen at Carnegie Hall
According to a not in Abra magazine, that performance at Carnegie Hall by Shearer in 1973 was his third there.
He had a series of articles in the New Zealand magazine "Magicana" in the 1980s talking about his life and work. The first article said he would be telling about his "performances at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Opera House, Sydney and at the Gorky Park in Moscow, my adventures on the high seas doing cruise work, coast to coast concert tours in America and Canada, my latest tour to the middle East which I have just completed, take you behind the scenes in the most famous theatres and concert halls and to the seamy side of life in Clubland"

Re: Steve Cohen at Carnegie Hall
My personal goal in staging a magic show at Carnegie Hall was to prove that the art of magic is capable of accepting its due respect, if only we give it the chance. Here's an in-depth look at the evening: http://blog.chambermagic.com/magic-show ... erformance
Thank you to all the magicians who came to support the show. It was good seeing you there.
