iGenii for March Now Live!

Postby Richard Kaufman » February 15th, 2011, 10:39 pm

The digital edition of the March issue of Genii is now live online and FREE for all subscribers.

When you login you will find the flipping pages icon at the lower left corner of the screen. Click on it and you'll be transported to the iGenii edition of March. This issue contains more audio and video than last month:

* A 26-minute video tour of the dealer room at the Ohio Magi-Fest with performances from many of the great dealers.

* A 20-Minute video tour of the Rory Feldman collection of Howard Thurston memorabilia.

* Jim Steinmeyer video interview where he talks about his new biography of Howard Thurston, including rare film footage of Thurston performing.

* Max Maven's online audio column, "Speaking of Max."

* Jon Racherbaumer's audio supplement to "On the Slant"

* Harry Anderson's "Storyville," an online-exclusive audio performance.

* Video supplement to De'vo's XCM column with a demonstration of this month's bit of extreme card magic.

* Video Demonstrations embedded in several dealer ads.

There'll also be a "More Genii Speaks" video which will go up tomorrow during the day. Editing now!

All this in addition, of course, to our usual terrific assortment of articles and columns in Genii, The Conjurors' Magazine.

The audio and video extras were a great addition to this issue, Richard. I'm slowly making friends with the electronic version of the magazine (I still prefer to hold dead trees in my hands) and this issue helps.

My only complaint regarding "Speaking of Max" was that it ended.

I personally view the digital version of the magazine as a placeholder until the paper version arrives, but also as a place to view and listen to things which can't come in a paper magazine. For subscribers outside the US, it's a great way to receive the issue because mail service is both expensive and lousy!

Now that the March issue is available on-line, where did the February issue go?

I didn't think to look in the app that displays the magazine.

The print issue arrived in Wichita yesterday. I was delighted to see Dr. Edwin Dawes on the cover, and immediately read the whole piece. (Well, I took my coat off first).

Kudos to Clay Shevlin for an excellent interview, and Ricky Jay for the introduction. A fine tribute to a very inspirational man.

Not able to get the March issue online here; it keeps returning:

"Not Found
The requested URL /publication/pubbounce.php was not found on this server."

Same on Firefox 3.6.13 and IE8. Anyone else having problems? The rest of iGenii/Ask Alexander is running fine.

Thanks!

Jim

I'm enjoying the electronic version immensely--so much fun with all the media extras. However, although I have viewed the XCM clip, the Lodestone clip and listened to Storyville, none of the clips on the Genii Speaks page are working for me...

BTW, it didn't work at all for about the next hour. Nothing but 404 server errors returned. After an hour all was well again. Either the server had a few problems or Comcast. (And I wouldnt bet against a Comcast glitch - never fails!)

Thanks!

Jim

I've just checked and all the audio and video on p.11 of Genii Speaks are working properly, though my internet connection here is slow and some of the videos stutter if you don't let them load completely before playing.

Yep, works like a charm, today. Thanks.
And thanks for posting the clips. I enjoyed the video updates, and catching a bit of the action at the Magi-Fest, which I could not attend.

I'm really enjoying the clips...but: Is it possible to make them a tad bigger for these old eyes? Is there a way for me to do it on my end? (I have an 18" screen and I still have to lean in a bit.)

Thanks!
Dustin

Seems to me that, if you have a fast connection, the videos automatically open in a larger window, and a smaller window is indicative of a slow internet connection. I don't know if this is true or just my perception. Perhaps someone a little nerdier could clear this up?

I have a very fast connection, and in another location (where I'm not supposed to view this) where it's a T-whatever (the ultra-fast kind) the window is the same size.

Mine opens in a small window part of the time and a larger one part of the time. My internet is over very old phone lines and is inconsistent.
