I think this qualifies as magic porn

That sound you hear is not thousands of teenage magicians shuffling cards. Nope . . . not . . . shuffling . . . cards.

Favorite part "only thirty one days LOOONG."

That and the fact you can kinda see her bra, dude.

I got bit by a fire ant and my arm itches. Other than that, nothing.

Look sex sells, and teenage(middle age) boys buy.

I would have simply appreciated some subtlety.

I also like how it looks like she is reading off cue cards.

Hawt!

Almost surprised we don't have a market for tricks you can have setup where your girlfriend/spouse does the provocative revelation. And the pitch would be - so much fun to practice at home you'll might want to start hosting dinner parties. Or something like that ;)

You know, a repeat borrowed hank that appears between two tied silks where the second time it's the bra. Borrowed bill to lipstick (or chapstick). Image of card appears in compact mirror after powder applied.

Now about magic porn. I saw a very light S/M video long ago which looked like a tupperware party - where they tried things on and giggled. I can see a magic video/tutorial done that way - where "no sleeves" means no top and the demonstrators are all appealing models.

Someone should start a website that sells magic to teens where all the demonstators are girls in skimpy outfits. A team of magicians creates the tricks and teaches them to the magic babe squad. They front the site, creating a community of adoring followers who try to impress them by buying their tricks and posting their performances. It would be a firestorm.

I think thumbtip magic qualifies more than this infomercial, but yes, cute young women will attract more young teenage magic geeks.

That makes me think of one of Ricky Jay's books. It's interesting that the style of "Cards as Weapons" didn't lead to much copying back in the day.

I used to think the Genii Forum was a site populated by adults and the occasional mature teen.

Apparently that assumption was wrong.

I think the only thing preventing a magic web site from having totally nude women demonstrating magic in videos is the cost of hiring the females to do it. Otherwise someone would have done it a long time ago. From a business standpoint it's a great idea--what else do horny teenage magic nuts want? Tricks and ... sorry, I can't print that word here.

It would cost next to nothing and is a very interesting idea.

Girls get 600 bucks a day on a pr0n set and for that, they have to do 'everything'. If you offered them 200 to not take their clothes off and do some magic you would have a line round the block.

Porn? Seriously?! To paraphrase Potter Stewart, I knows it when I sees it and this ain't it. Oh, maybe if she'd have said, "Come on guys, I'm waiting for your entry and look forward to seeing your rising wand and closing my hand around your sponge balls." Nah, this is tame and harmless. Nor is it new, even as recently as the mid-70s I visited a magic shop near Atlanta where, in the front window, they'd displayed a life-size cutout of a cute cheerleader with the caption, "Magic turns me on!"

And besides, considering all that's available for free online, are bra straps still titillating?

Just saying...

The "i know it when i see it" was a cute joke at the time. Very parochial humor but still - those where the days when you could flip your dog by the ears and not get so much as a raised eyebrow.

Some youngsters have gotten far beyond seeking "national geographic" type images and now discuss MILF, GMILF and let's not even get into the "boy parties" and ... well perhaps some here should be happy they don't hear much about this topic until it hits the news when things go badly.

Getting back to the softcore porn magic tutorial videos - I still see that as likely amusing and something that can be done in good taste without getting into implications of using the thumbtie to manage compliance or billiard (or cups and balls) productions as exercise equipment or noncompliance managers.

Anthony, given the rather puritanical world view held by many in our field (taom, for example, still has a blue material clause in their contract - often you see people on forums rail against magicians for not being as clean as they remember red skelton to be - and the whole 'magic is for the family' nonsense) then, yes, for magic - this is porn.

David. It seems that murphys is betting that you are wrong.

This thread is so disappointing. It simply was not what I was expecting to see (particularly late last night).

My mind is racing in so many directions right now. These are just some of my random thoughts since, frankly, Im having difficulty putting them in some kind of cohesive order:

Im always amused by people who rail against a puritanical world view but tend to be (or supportive of those who are) among the defendersand offendersof political correctness. But magic conventions, where youngsters are likely to be in attendance and the producers merely wish to keep acts clean, are frowned upon by the same intelligentsia.

I miss Camryn Manheim at the AMA awards. She was a breath of fresh air, F-bombs (and MF-bombs) and all. But at least we have Bruce Vilanch nowoh wait, hes gone too. But of course Jason Alexander is a real star, so his linguistic transgressions shall be overlooked.

Speaking of blue language, Im constantly being reminded to watch mine (since I cuss like a sailor; a trait gained from my sainted mother) but if you were to ask, Id be labeled a conservative if not an ultra-conservative. (And I suspect that I will now receive emails slamming me for being liberal. In this job Ive been called everything imaginable by the most unimaginative among us.)

Many of the same people who were displeased by a woman who did a striptease and pulled a hanky out of her censored were then delighted by the intelligence and sophistication of a naked man who had a vanished hanky reappear on his censored. His technique, after all, was better.

A guy who shoved a dildo through a hole in the crotch of a life-size flat of himself after having been honored with a prestigious award gets lambasted while those who complain about two guys who simulate the act of fellatio on a crucified Jesus are told to lighten up.

Porn?

I think some of you should be more concerned with your steady diet of groupthink.

First prize winner gets to see Criss Angel perform live.
Second Prize winner gets to see Criss Angel perform live twice.
Third prize winner is forced to watch Criss Angel perform live 365 times.

An effective incentive for contestants to make their maximum effort to land the top slot.

Maybe my tone did not convey.

Is this porn? No, not by any real standard. But it seems to be a case of pandering to a combo of the youth market and the 'if I do the right card trick the chick will sleep with me I just know it' market.

I have no problem with porn.

I do take issue with the fact that many magicians seem intent on keeping magic cutting edge with the 1940's.

One taom attendee said of one of our shows that 'it was sacrilegious" and that 'there is no place in magic for this kind of thing".

For them, even this would be edgy. So, when I called it 'porn' it is by that standard.

It"s like a fully garbed woman with zippers on her dress might be amish porn.
Pandering may be a better term, but porn got you to open the post.

Pandering huh, a pretty big fish the barrel here IMHO.

Just letting folks know the latest ebook on how to amaze your friends and translate refined humor will be offered for a limited time only to the preferred customer list ...

So is pandering to the trick addicted seeking their fix of clever is less dignified when it uses appealing models than using awkward looking folks who appear to fuss with the props and then closups of apparatus that only the performer should know exists and hope it works properly and can be reset in time and ... hey that is a kind of porn on its own.

Oh Ugly George - if only you also did "pick a card" - the guy was years ahead of his time on Manhattan Cable. Today he'd be like "and if i find your card you'll show me your ..." and might be a market force.

Can I suggest that the reaction to this video is one of the reasons any females interested in magic lose interest extremely fast.

I have no idea if Bethany is a magician, a Murphy's employee, or a "spokesmodel", but I am fairly certain she'd be extremely offended by this thread.

How is this young lady, working in the magic industry, going to feel when she reads this thread. Show some decency.

Some of you are worse than teenage magicians with the puerile observations and assumptions you are making. As adults you should know better. I agree with David Alexander.

Might I just clarify that my earlier post is clearly in reponse to PT's link to the upcoming Vernon, Fox, Zarrow auction.

You can check above if you don't believe me.

As far as the rest of the thread is concerned, I could care less.
