Cascade Control

Postby Jonathan Arturo » December 4th, 2009, 9:15 pm

I have recently began working on a cascade control from Charlie Miller. I am finding a challenge, which is nice! Sometimes it is great to find a move you have to work hard to get right. I think in this case it will pay off vastly! I was hoping perhaps there were others that do it and could give me some idea of how hard they worked on it. I would recommend learning it, you will no doubt be rewarded for the effort!

Dan & Dave have released an 18 minute video on the Miller cascade control.
Have you checked out their website?

Freak is great, but it takes some work to look as good as Will. After two days of demming it at Blackpool a couple of years ago his finger almost bent back on itself...

Take care, Ian

Hmmm aside from dislocating your finger...

I'll wait for a demo by Pete Biro. If his hands can do it - I'll take the risk.

Anyway, that demo looks amazing. Kudos to the inventor.

Will did this at the Castle recently and I was completely convinced that he had some physical abnormality that made it possible. Then I saw the DVD in the library and what do you know, it's a magic trick.

Will did a great show, by the way. If you have a chance to see him, do.

A young Matt Richmond performs (very well) and teaches the Cascade Control on Reel Magic Magazine Issue #7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e49qaQwiVdU (briefly seen at 1:15)

Card Finesse' II has a very good description of the mechanics of the move.

I try to stay out of discussions about the Cascade these days as I got a lot of flak (some deserved, some not) about BHM. Anything I say is very likely to be taken the wrong way, but hey.

This was discussed a while ago in this thread: http://www.geniimagazine.com/forums/ubb ... #Post53531

The Cascade is not an easy control to teach, and many of the explanations do not go past 'stick your finger in a break and cascade the cards'. The complexity of the move demands a more methodological approach.

Take care, Ian

I think I would just cut the pack at the break and be done with it.

This is where I learned it from.
It is really a strange type of thing just as I was about to throw in the towel on learning this move (I guess maybe saying throw the deck is a better visual of my frustration) It started to fall into line. Each time I do it I find it is vastly better than the time before. I don't know if this is really the norm for this type of thing. Though I am far from using it in a public setting it is not as far as I orginally thought it once would be!
So if you are trying this for the first time I say stick with it, it will come and it will come fast!
