I'm trying to identify a kids' magic book I had as a youth in the late 1970s.
Softcover, large format (8.5 x 11, or so)
Staple-bound.
Less than 100 pages.
Purple border around the cover -- though other editions might have had a different color.
Line drawings, with solid patches of color.
A ghost named Jeepers demonstrated most of the tricks.
Jeepers was on the cover.
Sometimes Jeepers wore a top hat.
It is NOT Spooky Tricks:
Help?
Identify this juvenile magic book?

I swear that I own that book or at least I used to. It would take me far too much time to locate it even if I have it any more.

Re: Identify this juvenile magic book?
ooooof. I think I just flashed. I had that book when I was five years old! I remember one of the tricks in it was to stare at an image of a ghost for a minute then look away and you'd SEE the ghost!
I'll look for it in my folks attic. I think they kept everything from when I was a child.
If you'd like to buy one I found it on amazon-
http://www.amazon.com/Spooky-Tricks-Ros ... B000NZDK2M
There is even a reprint from 1994.

Re: Identify this juvenile magic book?
I should not have posted the graphic. I clearly confused people.
The graphic shows Spooky Tricks, which was a different kids' magic book with a ghost on the cover that was common at the time.
Given the ghost cover, I expected people to supply Spooky Tricks as a wrong answer, and was trying to head that off. This is why I wrote "It [ie, the book I am after] is NOT Spooky Tricks" above the graphic of Spooky Tricks.
Again, the book I seek:
Softcover, large format (8.5 x 11, or so)
Staple-bound.
Less than 100 pages.
Purple border around the cover -- though other editions might have had a different color.
Line drawings, with solid patches of color.

In that case I don't know it. The only spooky trick I know is the Spooky Pencil. I have sold thousands of them.
Re: Identify this juvenile magic book?
Ted,
I'd call the serious magic book collectors. They collect not so serious books. Andy (John) Greget advertises on this very forum. Look to your right, there's his phone number in yellow. 408-284-4363.
If he can't instantly tell you about your Jeepers Magic book then I'd call Byron Walker. He has a website with his name in it. I think it's www.byronwalkermagicbooks.com
His phone number is on the website. If Bryron hasn't heard of the book, then you're hallucinating and it doesn't exist.

My bad. I thought you were saying that this (the picture) was the book you were looking for and that it's name wasn't spooky tricks.
Kent Gunn is dead-on about Byron.
(long time no-see Kent... you pop by Will's anymore?)

Craig, I've not been to the garage recently.
I called Byron Walker. He cannot identify the Jeepers book this thread references. If you have any title, author or other information it would help the bibliophiles help you.

Re: Identify this juvenile magic book?
The title of the book is
MAGIC TRICKS Easy Stunts to Amaze Your Friends
Authors: Ross and Pat Olney
Illustrator: Don Slagle
Cover: Dennis Hockerman
Put out by Golden Press
My copy says Copyright 1975
I can email a few scans of the book to anyone who is interested in it. I can't believe I had this. I am familiar with Spooky Tricks, but not with this one even though I have it. I didn't read it as a child. It ended up in my collection but I have not read it.

Re: Identify this juvenile magic book?
Thank you!
With this author information, I was able to locate a used copy at Amazon and order it. I'll be glad to have it on the shelf and available for my now-almost-4-year-old in a few years or whenever he becomes ready for it.
Thank you again.
