Kid's around here are wary of our place anyway,
built from an old church and a narrow path to access
we had to lure them in a bit with a few warm candles.

My son was Thomas the Tank Engine and my little girl was a fairy princess. In our neighborhood there were only a handful of trick or treaters. Less and less each passing year. Sign of the times I guess. It's pretty sad.

I am delighted that you used the word "Chinaman". I used it on a magic forum once and all sorts of daft people screamed and moaned that I was using a racist term despite the fact that a wonderful children's entertainer, (Richard Lyn) who IS a Chinaman uses the term all the time. Of course he is a Jamaican Chinaman so perhaps that makes it different.
I noticed that Vernon used the term "Chinaman" too. If it is good enough for Vernon it is good enough for me.

My three year old, two year old and one year old boys all dressed in identical monkey costumes. Too cute for words. My wife was in a safari outfit complete with pith helmet.

Our area seems to be increasing in what people do for Halloween. We visited FIVE amazing displays in people's front yards...three of them were walk-through haunted houses, one was a house that was covered with stuff (sort of like a magician with too many props on stage, but these were mad scientist labs, evil clowns, etc) and one was a walk-through/participatory Star Trek episode.

And as a result of all this, there are more people out going trick-or-treating than in previous years.

We had a blast. Set up our crazy yard display with 30 hand made tombstones, six fog machines, flying ghosts, a holographic head, and costumes galore. Didn't stop handing out candy until well after 10:30 in spite of a steady rain. Lots of work, but well worth it!

Yep, EVERYTHING (even trick or treat) is funnier with monkeys. Did strolling gig at one restaurant which was not very busy. Went to my other restaurant, (which closed that night) and judged costumes and did Butte ox to Butte ox for about 350 screaming maniacs. Had a blast.

Moi - I first attended a large party in the boonies of western Kentucky, where a couple fed over 200 people, housed us in a heavily decorated hall, and put on a three-hour variety show (mostly costumes and music). I departed after act 19 (a creepy version of Marie Laveau) to attend a second party in the boonies of southern Illinois, out by a lake on a cold wet night. Small bar, tent for the band, elaborate and obscene costumes. Best trick I found to do in these pitch dark outdoor circumstances: Chris Kenner's Rising Card app for the iPhone. Played great.

Just spoke to someone who attended a mensa Halloween party in Chicago (scary in itself). Some costumes: a guy in scary makeup and a black cowboy hat as Goth Brooks, another in a black plastic face mask and black cowboy hat as Darth Brooks. A girl dressed as a princess carrying a jar of liquid as Princess and the Pee. A guy with a big musical symbol on his chest and little teacups attached to his body as Big Treble in Little China. And my favorite, a guy with green vegetation hanging off him as he did rap numbers, as a Rap Scallion.

I do not approve of grammars of either the relative kind or of the grammatical kind. I did not realise that we were gathered here to win the Booker Prize for world literature. It is this sort of twittery that makes makes pedantic twits call "patter" scripting when everyone knows that "patter" is bloody patter.

Besides my grammar is in the spirit world and in my capacity as a psychic reverend. I have reluctantly been in touch with her to get her opinion on the matter and she informs me that in her opinion as a comedian Richard makes a very good magazine publisher. She further informs me that as a wit the Mc'Cabe person is only half way there. I am not quite sure what she meant.
