You can also search for images from Life Magazine on google, by typing the name of what you want and adding "source:life" to the search string. For example if you search for "John Scarne source:life" you'll get this picture of Scarne testifying before congress.

I'm not sure why this search doesn't bring up other Life Magazine articles, like the one Bill posted. But it's another resource.

Too, cool. I love the pic on page 105 of the Schulien's Bar link. I've never seen a pic of Ballantine doing real magic as opposed to his gag act.
