Re: October Issue of Genii Arriving Soon!
I've obviously been excited by this release for some time. For those that haven't heard, I am doing a series of interviews with as many of the contributors as possible to chat a bit about Annemann & the Jinx. I have already published my conversations with Jon Racherbaumer, Harry Anderson & Barrie Richardson. More coming soon with David Ben, Jonathan Levit, Mac King, Mike Caveney and more!

Richard,
Just to let you know my September issue arrived about three days ago here in Ireland. Given you held it back for the FISM reports the new delivery people seem to be much better then the previous.

It hasn't arrived here in Canada, but since most of the country is only accessible by canoe or bush plane (including where I live) it may be awhile.

It's really odd the way the post office delivers magazines. I'd like to strangle 'em.

Richard,
Out of curiousity, how do post offices handle magazines. I know you had problems with international deliveries till you switched carriers.
Out of interest does my magazine get dispatched in bulk to some continental distribution centre and then on to me in Ireland? Tell me to mind my own if you wish , just wondering.

Re: October Issue of Genii Arriving Soon!
Picked up mine today from the Post Office here in Southwest Virginia. I've just had a chance to skim the issue, and I plan to spend some quality time reading through it this weekend. What a wonderful job everyone did in capturing the look and feel of The Jinx. Another classic issue!

Yes, all magazines outside the US are delivered in bulk and then put into the local mail service. It's the only possible way to do it. The only other option is regular airmail, which costs over $12 per ISSUE.

Re: October Issue of Genii Arriving Soon!
Irish Magician,
I used to work for the Post Office years ago when I was going through school. Bulk mail is handled separately from the normal First Class mail. They are sorted according to BMCs (Bulk Mailing Centers). The sorting system is mostly mechanical and it isn't given the priority of first class mail (No jokes please, I just worked there!). Sometimes the machines sit unattended until more comes in so they can do it all at once. First Class machines are always going. So everyone has a BMC somewhere close to them, for overseas it probably goes to somewhere like NYC. When The BMC gets your package they sort it again according to the local post office and send it there.
The biggest reason it takes longer for bulk mail, I think, is because first, there are less people handling that mail ( I worded at a BMC and they had 8 people per shift on the bulk mail and about a hundred on First Class) and second, because the machines that sort it are much slower and more labor intensive. You have big conveyor belts with some schlub sitting at the end picking up each box or magazine and typing a number into the computer, that parcel goes onto another belt which then sends it to the correct BMC bin. On the other hand, First class mail is zipping through a machine that can read ten zillion letters an hour and sprays a bar code on them and automatically sorts and sends the envelope.
Also keep in mind it's easy to say something like "it should only take X amount of days to go from y to z" but it's different when you're talking about doing that with millions of pieces that all need to be sorted.
I hate defending the Post Office!
It only took two days to get my copy this month. Which by the way, may be one of the greatest issues ever.

PhilG: our foreign mail does not go into the US postal system, so what you said doesn't apply. It is brought overseas privately and then placed in the local mail system there.
Our US subscribers (and the subscribers of all magazines in the United States who haven't paid extra for first class service) do go through the bulk mail system.

It's from a commercial music site where you purchase material for Television and movies. I didn't make the connection until you mentioned it, but this version is called "Horny Baby." I bought a package with all three tracks (Long Instrumental, Short Instrumental & Long Vocal). If you are interested in hearing the Vocal version, you can CLICK HERE but it isn't safe for work, so use your headphones. ;-) Enjoy!
Were you referring to the Mel Torme version or the later Blues Version because it is totally similar to the Melvin Taylor & David Sanborne versions that I have on CD. It's obviously the same song as in the Quincy Jones track as well.
Thanks for helping me realize why I liked it so much when I found it!

I think there's a flute version by Herbie Mann, but my favorite version is by Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis on tenor from the album, "The Heavy Hitter."
