Richard, for what i know you,I am of the opinion that you are a very moderate(if it is the correct word),maybe tolerant it is more correct.Ready to forget about the past(we talked about it at Blackpool,if you remember, maybe not).As magicians are notoriously curious also about magical chit-chats,I hope you will explain the above in a moment of calm at your booth next week.(I know that you will, but at the same time you hope that NO moment of calm will be there!)But there is always a moment of"rest"we human are obliged to have, but I will not ask,you nor follow you there!

Alessandro, I don't have to explain it: anyone who has a file of the Crimp can post some of the remarks Sadowitz has made about me, Genii, Gene Maze, and on and on.

Seriously, Allesandro, do you read the Crimp? It's not the work of sane person.

I had a full set of crimp and sold it few years back. I didn't get that kind of money.

Maybe the buyer above has paid 1 cent each for every swear words used in the crimp magazine.

there is blood, there is swearing, there is bashing, there is offensive cartoons.... you name it.

One does not need to read The Crimp to get a full dose of Jerry Sadowitz. Just visit his websiteparticularly the bullocks section. Readers of this site will have no trouble guessing the password to his magicians only section, though the only thing that appears there is another rant.

The definition of "insanity" is a legal one.
After looking over the gent's website, his ravings might be the affectations of a histrion, but when accompanied by the life size shot of his angry member, his "dislike" for a certain publisher, his predisposition to make light of tragedy, all memorialized in a child-like scrawl, Alfred Adler might have said that the man exibits most of the outward manifestations of a Gemeinschaftsgefuhl black hole.

That is, if black holes were around when Adler was around.

Anecdotally may I add that unbalanced people are able to recognize each other through the giving of signs...You know..Sorta like the Masons and Elks.

Lacking a background in the field of mental health the above is only conjecture on my part and as such not meant to libel or besmirch the character of the person in question.

On the flip side it is axiomatic that the truth is an absolute bar against the charge of libel.

I did find his "clues" to the password required to gain entrance to the Magicians Only section on the humorous side (With apologies to the party offended.)

Got to get back to studying for my online degree in psychology from LaSalle Extension University.
There is a supposed to be a pop quiz on Monday night.

Yes, black holes were around during Adler's day...and some time before. ;)

Interesting that you mention Adler since he developed the concept of the inferiority complex,
something Jerry seems to exhibit constantly.

Just visited the site and ... wow ... just wow.

I get it, he's been twenty years in the art and all he got was a punch in the face, but anyone else with any time in the art who achieves any success is ripping him off.

The funny thing is, he IS kind of afraid to "go outside." Not in the sense that he doesn't leave his house, but if he meets any of the people he regularly [censored] on in The Crimp or his website, he will not even look them in the face. He can't bring himself to say a word.

I'm not a health-care professional, either, but the dude is nuts. Anyone can see that.

It's very odd when the only thing of any substance on a person's website is a picture of his censored.

That must be very important to him. Unfortunately for him, it's extremely unimportant to the rest of the world.

I do have a couple af the issues of the Crimp, and did,and do consider them"original".I never understood the reason of firing on you and others, but I will discover it in the future. The people(nice people)that work with him never wanted to go in details,I do not know why.I do know that Jerry is what could be called"an eccentric"magician.I have read about his success at Edinburgh's Festival, although he uses a kind of effects that reminds the Martinez one(but he is not as pretty!).And yet,he was nice, enthusiastic and helpful when we talked toghether.Like Sen.Crandall(R.I.P.)(I think it was him)used to say:It's a mystery to me........

Jerry Sadowitz seems very paranoid that people are ripping him off.

I have a very simple solution. He should sell a collective edition of his works, similar to Richard's Collected Almanac.

Immagine the "Collected The Crimp Magazine". I'm sure he would sell tons and it would cut the legs off of the black market demand for his material.

I know I'd buy one for sure.

Jerry was a great friend of the late Peter Kane who was also a creative genius. Jerry was very protective of Peter and both felt very dissapointed at seeing his routines being duplicated wlsewhere. I believe it led to Peter Kane publishing less than he could have done. I believe this is in part why Jerry feels this way.

Peter Kane was one of the very few creators in magic that reliably contributed truly ground-breaking plots. Jerry was very close to him and felt annoyed that he saw Peter's work was revamped by many as their own with just tiny tweaks in handling and little if any crediting.

Its not so much the magic part that pisses him off (though it does), its the theft of his material in the comedy worldwhich is larger and more lucrative than magicthat has pushed him over the edge that led him to posting a photo of his own schmeckle on the Internet. He pretty much challenges the other comics to copy that hunk.

Richard is correct: Its sad.

I have heard all the horror stories about Jerry Sadowitz. All I can tell you is that I met him several times in London and he was always very nice to me. I found him very pleasant. I suppose he has his dark moods. There is a good and bad side to all of us. As the good book says (and please note it was written before 1954) "he who is without sin cast the first stone"

Oddly enough he told me he never goes near the internet!

Paranoia is an awful condition to suffer with and, in my opinion, Jerry suffers mightily with it.

He sees everything as a conspiracy to keep him from being successful, led by those who are successful. Oh, and he hates Americans.

He has never been able to "break through" to the top tier of performers. Show business is a tough world, especially for close-up magicians.

So Richard K . is doubly cursed, a successful American magician. Or Gene Maze, a wonderful magician and human being who Jerry (falsely) accused of stealing from him.

Anyone who has the gall to transgress and criticize him is damned, like Peter Duffie, his old friend (and co-author), who stood up for Gene Maze by saying that the sleight Jerry felt he had originated had been filmed by Gene years earlier and Peter had seen the film. Or me, who stood up for Richard, Peter and Gene.

For me, life is too short to waste time on people like Jerry, who I think is an excellent magician, by the way. When I gave a talk on Karl Fulves at a Magic Circle History Gathering, Jerry slunk in and slunk out right after my presentation. Jerry likes Karl.

He had a great relationship with Pat Page, and gets along well with Martin MacMillan, Roy Walton, Gordon Bruce and others. But his attitude toward me and my friends is unacceptable, and I just ignore him these days.

Nobody is ALL bad! Even Adolf Hitler loved animals so much he was a vegetarian. And I can almost (note I said "almost") forgive him anything when I read that he banned the publication of magic secrets in newspapers.

Interesting to hear from Matthew Field that Jerry got on very well with Patrick Page. I didn't know that. It explains now why he was so nice to me. He said I reminded him of Patrick Page. I personally don't see the connection at all but it seems he did.

I really don't understand that comment. It seems some clarification is necessary. Or possibly poor Mullins is trying to make a joke but comedy is not quite his forte. Of course we can't all be good entertainers.

It is possible that he was not a vegetarian because he loved animals and I have been putting two and two together and gotten five. However, I do know for certain that he loved animals. I also know he abhorred hunting and killing animals. He used to reprimand Goering over it. I will concede he didn't have quite the same reluctance to kill humans.

Before I got burned out with cards, I had complete file of The Crimp. At point that added up to 47 issues - but more have come out since then.

Wow - what a resource! Easily the most fun I have ever had in card magic. What is great about the magazine is that each issue might only be 6-8 pages long - but it doesn't matter because Jerry has this wonderful demented style of handwriting where every inch of the page is crammed with information and tricks. Each page of each issue is incredibly rich in detail.

Jerry was one of my favourite creators of card magic. And my favourite performer. You need to see his performances on 'Stuff The White Rabbit'!

It is rare to find a magician who shines brightly in both domains (read any good card books by Ricky Jay lately?). It was one of the highlights of my time in magic working through those issues.

I hope my words are not cheapened by the fact I got burned out with cards a few years ago. In my defense - the same thing happened to Charlie Miller!

Jerry used to work behind the counter at International Magic. I am not sure if he is still there. But any visitors should check out the shop. It is way better than Davenports and you have the chance of meeting a living legend. How much better that once was when Jerry was happy to reach under the counter and sell the latest issues of The Crimp to anyone that might ask.

Last time I visited the shop - Jerry was still selling the magazine to anyone who asked. I purchased a couple of the latest copies off him. I guess Jerry wants to deter casual readers. Since one issue was titled Child Porn Monthly and the other had a graphic image of a naked woman giving a guy a h*nd j*b. The issues I purchased were lying on the counter as I chatted to Jerry. At that moment - a kid walked in with his Mum. The Mum was asking Jerry for recommendations for her son who had only recently taken up an interest in magic.

In a rare moment of vigilance - I remembered the issues of The Crimp lying on the counter in full view. Luckily I managed to reach over and turn them face down before either the kid or the Mum saw them!

True story!

Joe,
I moved your post from the topic it was in to this one because it was woefully off-topic, unless you know something about The Crimp being published as a book, in which case say so and we'll move it back. I didn't want to delete it altogether, hence moving it here. Even though this is "Collectors Marketplace," the topic changed from selling to discussing the publication.
Thanks,
Dustin

After I marketed "Mutanz," a version of Roy Walton's, "Cascade," effect (with Roy's permission), Sadowitz took offense and called me a "knob," so add me to the list of his non-admirers. Apparently, "The Crimp" has some great material but I'll just have to find great material elsewhere (like where there's actual type).

I used to live very close to International Magic, but, luckily, this was before Sadowitz's clerkship there.
