Chink a Chink instructions
Chink a Chink instructions
Is there a site where I can get instructions on how to go about doing this? Thanks Ron

There's a book called Sleight of Hand by E. Sachs - and another book called The Stars of Magic recently republished by Meir Yedid which teach that item and much more you'd likely enjoy learning.

Does chink a chinks use 4 or 5 objects? Ron

Four, any more are imaginary... he says stirring his coffee to dissolve any evidence ;)
Re: Chink a Chink instructions
I thought it was eight?
Re: Chink a Chink instructions
I'm not sure how many items it takes. I've got a couple dozen engraved brass chink-a-chink weights in my workshop right now. Is that too many or should I order more brass?

Although I see the "four or five" to be a trick question, a square display of four is fine. I've been following your progress on Whit's site. Can't wait to get my hands on a set.
It's not perfect by any means, but here is a clip I made to show Chris Reeseman's set he made for Whit.

Of course, you don't want to check David Roth's Chink A Chink in the first bound volume of APOCALYPSE - the very first original issue; January 1978.

They don't seem to be discussing doing the trick with coins,

Don't worry,it happens to all of us. I hear there's a memory course out there somewhere that might help. I forget who wrote it though...

Do you have any idea how many thousands (tens of thousands?) of times Harry has heard jokes like that? You can't imagine. I've heard people say it to him at least 100 times.

Re: Chink a Chink instructions
Folks might want to remember that the Roth handling works with sugar cubes on the table as well as bottlecaps. Not sure what the entertainment cost/benefit is to carrying around four weights for just that one trick - but to each their own.

It's all a "character" thing. For Whit and others like myself in the "Scoundrels" group, we're always on the lookout for authentic looking props that could have been used in the old west for things like assaying gold. With the proper presentation these should do extremely well.

Here's Ed Parrish's routine for the new style of brass weights Chink-a-Chink that we were discussing:

When will the Riser chink-a-chink set be ready for sale? Really looking forward to buying a set.

Probably do better to ask Jim Riser directly.

Why ask the guy making them when you could ask the question on a forum - of people who really do not know? This is puzzling. This sort of thing goes on all of the time. Why?

David Roth doesn't call it chink a chink anymore.. He calls it Chinese Ring Assembly.

"Chinese Ring Assembly"? Is he using rings instead of coins?

I wish I had the answer to that. I've been patient, thinking it was just about to be released but now I have to ask.
Jim,
When are these coming out? Or is question better directed to Whit and Co.?

Dave;
Since you asked the maker directly ...
As you know, I have been ready and waiting to produce these since mid-February. The hold up has been at Whit's end. We wanted a better set of instructions in DVD form than came with the original design. Whit has videoed his new routine with them and was to receive some outside video to include. Aapparently it was sent to the wrong address twice by the maker. Waiting for this has caused a big delay. I've been on the road for a son's wedding and to visit other son for the past 3 months - so have not pressed the matter.
Anyway, I am shipping the first 10 sets to Whit at School for Scoundrels by September 1st. The only change in design from those shown on my web site is that the weights will be engraved with "2 oz." rather than "50 gm." (at Whit's request). How long it will take him to get his web site shopping cart set up is up to him. Please do not bother him. He will post them on his web site when ready.
They should hit the market by mid-September.
