Well Oiled Reset

Postby David Thomas » August 10th, 2008, 5:21 pm

I recently learned Well Oiled reset from classic magic of LJ and I love the handling of the routine and it's cleanness. But, there's a problem in the routine where you have to elsmley count like 8 cards cards which I've had a bit of trouble with. But then a friend (Magician Mike Robinson) told me that he came up with a better handling of the effect and it's just as clean. Also, setup is easier to remember. "Well Oiled Reset" is incorrectly described in Classic Magic. A correct description will appear in Mr. Jennings Takes It Easy.

OK I'm buying your book just for the correct description. When will it be on the market?

You only have one chance to get all this stuff right, and it's better to take the time. There's nothing worse than trying to follow a written description and discovering it's screwed up. I've made this mistake myself in the past and try not to repeat it in the future!

I wonder whats incorrect? Because I've followed the directions as written, and the trick seems to work fine.

The trick works, but that doesn't mean the techniques are properly explained. Subtle details that make it much better are missing. Also, just because the trick works, doesn't mean that it was Jennings' best handling of it.

No updates of any substance: other projects have taken my time recently. The good news is that I've found someone to take the photos, which is a big weight off my mind. Now I just have to finish the editing.
