Thanks Richard. Any idea when the Zarrow book will be coming out?

The Zarrow book should be out later this summer. Meir Yedid will be publishing it and I believe he will be taking some advance orders at the IBM-SAM convention for it. It will be a very large book with over a 150 items, plus well over 1,000 photographs.

As for the Vernon photograph, unfortunately despite what was written in Early Vernon, it was a posed shot. I had a very limited edition series of prints pulled from the original negative but they are, at present, accounted for. The prints are 19" x 19" in size and are of stunning clarity. The problem with selling more of these is that they are very expensive to reproduce. They are pulled and prepared in such a manner as to be of museum exhibition quality. While many magicians may pay a lot of money for a lithograph, few are willing to pay for this type of photograph. So, larger runs - say a limited edition of 50 to a 100 - may not generate much interest in the community. Of course, I hope I'm wrong.

The Vernon Estate is contemplating releasing, however, some other items for the community. It just takes a lot of time to organize. As for Vernon, Volume Two, as Richard suggests, I am working on it but a couple of other books will probably appear before it.

The Stevens material will be incorporated into another book - not to scare anyone - but another Annotated Erdnase that I have been working on for a number of years. I know, people are shaking their heads. It's best not to ask. It is what it is, and people will comment on its value or lack thereof when it is eventually released.

Thanks for the updates David. I look forward to all your books!

I would be interested in purchasing some of those photos if other buyers back out.

I'd also be interested in a copy of the classic Vernon piece where he is looking down at the Ace of Clubs. Any idea where I can find a nice one, either as a stand-alone photo or even the original Dale Vernon promo piece from which it came?

Just wanted to say that Revelation has reached the East Coast. I just looked through it briefly and it is one beautiful book. Great job to all involved.

Now I've got to buy one of Regal's playing card auctions so I have enough decks to get through the book.

Answer to Donal.
It's impossible to know how many and how fast books will sell in Louisville. I will have copies at the MAGIC Magazine booth and if you find me before David Ben's lecture on Vernon (Tuesday night I believe) you will surely get one.
See you there.

Revelation has landed on the EAST COAST? I am still waiting by the mailbox in Arizona. Seems like I am a lot closer than the East Coast. Do the books have to go through the Panama Canal? On wait, I forgot! They are being sent through the US mail. That probably has something to do with it.

How does this book compare to the Wesley James DVD's?

It's a silly question because we are being asked to compare thoughts from Dai Vernon with thoughts from Wesley James. No disrespect to Wesley, but few peoples's thoughts on magic can be compared to Vernon's.

Mr. Farmer,

Ah the irony of it all. I loved your pedantic posting. The next time someone asks me to compare a book and a DVD I will just laugh and do my best impersonation of Johnny Weismuller.

Actually, Flim Flam is 98% completed. The entire book has been written and I'm taking the photos now. Perhaps the summer -- Richard is laughing because he's got a copy and I put a lot of jokes about Jeff Busby in the book.

If you have not gotten a copy of this wonderful book you are really missing out. Being a collector of books on many subjects besides magic for the last 25 years I can tell you that this package is first class in everyway. There is no way you can beat this for the price; full cloth binding, wonderful end papers, exquisite photography to say nothing of the content itself. This is a must have for any cardican. This is simply a masterpiece of publishing.
Peace, Joe

As a side comment, with the publication of Regal's book, now this book, and ultimately Zarrow's book coming soon, I'm especially pleased that the "written word" is suddenly hitting the market. These books are actually very reasonably priced considering how bloody expensive it is to produce anything these days (other than one-trick dvd's).

No offense intended to any party here....
I think it's a tad early to put Regal in the same class as Vernon and Zarrow. I certainly agree that Approaching and Revelation are worth every cent charged, and I expect the Zarrow book will meet the same high standards.
BTW, David Regal has received an _awful_ lot of my money in the past couple of months. ;-)

In May we sent one notice to our email list of regular customers about the deluxe edition. Within a few days, all 150 were sold. Our advertisement stated that these books would be sent out at the end of June. Everything was going so well; the deluxe copies arrived right on schedule and they are beautiful. The tip-in photos of Dai Vernon look fantastic. All of the original Vernon playing cards have been safely inserted into their custom mylar sleeves. Then the slipcases arrived and they are, unfortunately, too tight. We are having new slipcases made right now and our new projected ship date is the middle of July. The plan is to have all deluxe copies shipped out before I leave for the IBM/SAM in Louisville. Believe me, no one was more disappointed than I was, but these books last a very long time and we want them to be perfect. Please accept our apologies for this unexpected delay.

DrDanny-
My comment was more on the rather sudden appearance of three high-quality printed magic materials, as opposed to another dvd set or one-trick dvd (not how they line up against each other). All these are books I'm going to spend some quality time with (I haven't bought the Regal book yet, but it's in my crosshairs).

Having missed Revelations the first time round in the early 80s, I knew I had to get my hands on a copy of this latest outing, Revelation.

Revelation arrived yesterday and is by far one of the most beautifully produced magic books I own. I spent several hours reading my copy - now the perfect companion to my well-thumbed Dover edition of TEATCT.

Have spotted one or two typos, but there you go!

I was surprised to see the illustrations by Marshall D. Smith had not all been enlarged for this latest volume, nothing wrong with that I suppose though Smith's drawings occasionally seem a bit lost on those large-format pages. This is easily made up for by the inclusion of over a hundred and fifty rediscovered photographs of Vernon's hands executing many of the moves explained by Erdnase.

Vernon's concise pointers throughout have already proved helpful to me; this is a book I shall be returning to again and again and again.

Well done to all those involved. A fantastic tome!

Thanks for the update on the deluxe edition, given the reports of the stardard copy I have no doubt it will be worth the wait.

Thanks

Now that I've had it for a few days, I can honestly say that I can't imagine ANYTHING that could have been done to make it any better than it is.

I've not ever seen a book on magic or gambling that comes even close to this one in terms of bookbinders art, authors knowledge, or publishers final product.

It's as close to a perfect magic book as I suspect I'll ever see.
