Five Times Five

Postby Michael Feldman » February 6th, 2008, 11:25 am

So just out of curiosity. Does anyone know what the "five times five" in the books like "five times five: Japan" means?

Anyone? Richard? I am assuming you will certainly be able to assuage my curiosity.

Five magicians gave five tricks each.

Take care, Ian

In Five Times Five-Scotland, 10 magicians gave three tricks each :)

I really loved the five times five idea. It would be great to have a five times five France or Spain.

Obviously RK has more important things on his mind but I'd like to think that perhaps one day the project will be revived.

I wanted to do a whole series of books, but in the case of France (which would have been next) so many different magicians in France weren't speaking to one another at the time (and wouldn't agree to be in a book together), that I could never get it done.

Then Joe Stevens decided to put out a series of videotapes, like Magic of France, Magic of Spain, etc. There's nothing that takes the wind out of your sails more than someone copping your idea!

Hopefully, one day RK will decide to revive this project. How about "Five Times Five: Taiwan"? :D

I have 5 X 5 Japan and Scotland. These books is good BUT it would be great 5 X 5 (any country) card tricks and coin tricks not included. I know. I know. It would be hard to find to fill in the book but it would be worth a try! It's only suggestion.

You have to make it or have someone make it for you. It's not sold.

Where can I go or look to get one made. Does anyone know of a specialty place out there somewhere, or is there a printer of some sort I could get?

I don't know the specific nature of the gimmick you're looking for, but I can highly recommend Gary Plants if you're looking to have custom work done. A few years ago, I asked him to make a set of the gimmicks for Wesley James' "Watch the Wild Ace", and they look fantastic and were very reasonably priced for the quality of work he did. Check him out at The Card Plant.

If you want to try your hand and doing it yourself, Craig Matsuoka's e-book on creating card gaffs is very good. You can pick it up at Lybrary.com.

Thanks Mr. Maloney. I wanted to also gaff a card for the new era moving pip where there's a six in one corner and an eight in the other.
