Aunt Mary's Terrible Secret

Postby Robert McDaniel » June 26th, 2003, 5:57 pm

Does anyone know anything about this card trick (reviewed by Mike Close in MAGIC this month) or how to contact David Williamson to order?

www.williamsonmagic.com doesn't seem to be the right address.

Thanks,
Robert

Here's the 411 from Williamson:

"My site is under construction and will be up and running in the next few days."

Interested parties should just check back at the site after the holiday.

David W. actually wrote and printed out a limited number of this manuscript about two years ago. When he was in New Orleans several months ago, he gave me a copy of this 23-page manuscript, explaining that he was planning to put this out when he had time.

The nice feature of this item is that it's a COMPLETE, narrative-driven routine, divided into three acts. The underlying principle was the brainchild of Stewart James, plus a neat follow-up addition by Allan Slaight. Williamson added many nice touches and finesses, but, more important, it is the ROUTINE that should attract your attention.

This is, in the right setting, a real winner.

Onward...

I think I'm right in saying that this can also be found on Williamson's video "At The Card Farm". It was filmed as a companion video to Williamson's 2002 lecture at Blackpool and is sadly explanation only.

I picked one up from David last week. You can get them directly from him.

David plans to add all of his items to his site, just hasn't had a chance to get it all up yet (FISM, travel, and performing). Feel free to contact him and he can get one out to you.

Does anyone know if David has begun filling orders for "Aunt Mary's Terrible Secret"? I sent him an order in the middle of July along with a paypal payment and haven't heard a thing. Not even a response that payment was received by him. A follow up note within the last several days has also gone unanswered. Any one know What's Up?

Best thoughts,

John:

I haven't heard anything either but I was guessing it was because he'd gone to FISM and hadn't caught up yet.

David just replied personally to my post here on the forum and informed me that orders are being filled. There was a delay with the printer but he's getting caught up.
Seems like Dave is another class act. Great customer service.

Hi All,

We'll I've just finished shipping all of the orders so far for Aunt Mary's Terrible Secret! Thanks for the interest and I apologize to those who had to wait a few weeks.

To be honest, the issue of MAGIC magazine with Mike's review came out quicker than I was prepared for. Add to that a delay with the printing of the "Aunt Mary brand" playing cards. But now all is well and I am prepared for quick response to new orders! We've had an great response so far and are looking forward to future interest that may be generated by ads in the mags due to hit shortly.

If anyone will be in Ft. Collins for the Rocky Mountain convention, you can pick up your copy there. I'll also be in Chicago and Toronto this fall lecturing and hanging out with my magic buddies and fellow "move monkeys"

I received the "Aunt Mary's" package, and found it to be a tremendous routine, elegantly produced and thoughtfully and entertainly explained.

A true value in today's often wimpy and overpriced market. And I agree with M.Weber; Willamson is crazy to let this bad boy out of the bag.

I agree with Randy, one of the things that I noticed when I received mine in the mail was how nicely it was produced. The graphic on the front and the quality of the book are really superb - as well as well written.

Oh... and it's a great routine. Thanks!

So magicwilly (if that's your real name), when will you be in Chicago (and may I suggest lecturing at BOTH Magic, Inc. and Midwest Magic--to completely different crowds with one exception)?

Thanks for the thread! I saw David perform this at the MagiFest, and it was a fantastic routine. I wanted to pick it up then, but I think he was out of them. I completely forgot about it until now, and just purchased it. I'm wondering how long it took anyone else that purchased it to receive it?
Thanks,
Oz

Wow, what a totally classy product. It is wonderful that someone will still release routines which they have actually honed in the real world, not merely "beta tested" among their conclave of hangers-on. The instructions are so thorough, you can feel how much time David put into the creation and perfection of this routine.

Im curious: need a detailed desc. of the effect(s) ?
Is it hard: do yo need to do 6 perfect faros or 3 center deals for this routine?

No, absolutetly not. It's a three phase routine. The first phase, you must get a few cards out of the deck. Dave provides an ingenius way of handling this if you don't want to palm the cards.

Between the second and third phase, you do have to perform a perfect faro. This sets you up for the third phase.

It's really not that techically difficult. As a result, a lot of attention can be focused on the presentation.

Technically you do not need to do a faro. The non-faro method is a great alternative, and is extremely deceptive. I would not want to risk the effect on whether I'll hit my faro everytime, nor deal with having to adjust if I'm off by one, etc. That was an excellent suggestion on the part of David, and I greatly appreciate such a great product from him, at such an incredibly low price.
