CoinMagic--Out of Print??!?

Acckk! Say it ain't so!

I've been trying for two months to order CoinMagic through my favorite (local) dealer, but he hasn't been able to get it. Steve Brown (the Washington one) told me a week ago that he also hadn't been able to get it from my other favorite dealer (in Baltimore).

So I tried to order it online, from the Kaufman & Co. web site.

Today I got an e-mail from Margret Daham saying that CoinMagic is....

OUT OF PRINT!

NOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo........!

Will it be reprinted, Richard? Please say yes!

Not for a while! Have you had Steve Brown check Murphy's in California?

Dave,

A search on Google for "CoinMagic" yielded some positive signs:

Thanks, John. I just sent an inquiry to Richard Hatch at H&R Magic Books. If he doesn't come through (even if he does), I'll suggest to Steve that he contact Murphy's, Richard.

There's a copy out there somewhere for me, I just know it!

I was lucky emough to get a S/H copy of "Coin Magic" from Richard at H&R recently. This introduced me to the work of Geoffrey Latta. Can anyone please recommend any other material regarding Mr Latta?

Latta has material in Apocalypse and Richard's Almanac. There is also a trick in one or two of the Symposium books.
He had a set of lecture notes, but these are long out of print and unavailable.
Stephen Minch will be publishing a large book of Latta's material.

Thank you all. I located a copy on the web site of a magic dealer in Idaho (no, NOT Mr. Buzzbee!) called "The Magic Geek" and placed an order. Many thanks to John Pezzullo for the link to the Google search.

All the rest of you, if you don't have it, the Forum-ites have provided links to the handful of copies still available.

A couple years ago I thought I would never get my hands on Strong Magic, but then Richard re-printed it, so I guess there's always hope! Perhaps the same will happen with CoinMagic in a couple years (after the new Jennings books and all the other things you all have asked for...)

Steve H., I find it interesting that you say you saw a softcover copy at the Magic Corner, as I didn't think that the K&C CoinMagic was ever available in anything but a hardcover.

Could you have seen a copy of Bobo's Modern Coin Magic?

David,

So that was you that I saw last week acting suspiciously at the photocopier in the Humanities & Social Sciences Library of McGill University.

From what I could see you were photocopying "The Lost Notebooks of John Northern Hilliard".

You should be ashamed of yourself.

The third printing of CoinMagic, 1,000 copies, was in soft cover. A mistake. Have never done it again.

Just curious, a mistake in what sense? Cost, quality...?

Probably what he means by "mistake" is in the physical quality of the book. Mine is also softcover and some of the middle pages are falling apart and now I don't want to open it too often so the book doesn't completely break. The content quality is otherwise EXCELLENT!

Maybe we ought to keep our softcover copies in a safe and who knows, maybe one day they will be very valuable and could be sold as one of the very few mistakes Mr RK made and they would be worth thousands of dollars...

Or maybe RK wants to buy them back from us for a very large sum in order to 'cover' his mistake and keep us from spreading the word (about his making a mistake)... Just kidding. I wouldn't part with my book for all the money in the world.

You can take them to a local bindery and for about $20 have it rebound as a hardbound book, or you could take it to a local print shop and pay $5 and have it trimmed and bound as a Wire-O book (which is a great way to bind books for actual use). If you really want the book to lay flat, this is about the only option that lives up to the hype. Of course, now there is no spine to read when it is on the shelf.

Ah, the trade-offs we have to make...

This may be of use....Was at Byron Walker's last night. He has one hardbound (first edition/second printing) and one softbound for sale. Both in fine condition.

Don't know whether he's got any left, but Brian Sutherland at www.magicgeek.com just sold me a new copy. He may have more.
