Book recommendation

Postby pabloin us » October 29th, 2021, 7:14 am

I would like to buy one of the books of the Japanese magician, either Japanese Ingenious or New magic from Japan. Japanese ingenious has double the pages, also the binding of the book, looks nicer and the illustrations look of similar, quality but this is the most I can tell.
I would prefer a book with general magic, not just cards, and more close-up magic

Any recommendation to help my decision?

Thank you
Pablo

Here's a nice listing of the contents of Japan Ingenious: https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/card- ... ingenious/
And here's a synopsis of New Magic of Japan: https://www.conjuringarchive.com/list/book/179
You also might look into 5 Times 5 Japan, https://www.conjuringarchive.com/list/b ... ight=91110.

This thread in The Green Monster talks about magic books by Japanese magicians: https://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/vie ... forum=41&3

Similarly, in this forum Richard Kaufman lists some of the titles he's published: viewtopic.php?t=32068
Effect and method are inextricably linked.

I have Japan Ingenious and Five Times Five - Japan. Two excellent books.

Both fit your criteria of "general magic, not just cards, and more close-up magic".

By the way, the link to Five Times Five - Japan should be https://www.conjuringarchive.com/list/book/178

Japan Ingenious is a much better book than New Magic of Japan. Trust me.

Thank you for correcting my link, Dave. Sometimes I have the attention span of a gnat on crack.
