Bossie Cow
The Ireland Magic Company marketed a trick by Carlton King entitled, "Bossie Cow Milk Trick."
An empty glass magically fills with milk. The milk is poured into a tube open at both ends but the milk does not run out the bottom. Covered with the tube, the glass of milk vanishes.
I have some ideas on how this all works but anyone has the original instructions, I'd love to see them.

Bob:
I had the pleasure of playing with the original "Bossy Cow" prop, just a few weeks ago.
Check out the August 1979 issue of GENII: "Milk-O" article by Ted Colteaux (page 542)......There is a sketch of "Bossy" and her gaffs...and a brief description of how she is utilized.
Rumor has it --"Bossy" herself - will be for sale on a certain dealer's table - at Bill Smith's August 2021, Las Vegas "Magic Collector Expo - 2021"

Re: Bossie Cow
Jim Gerrish revisited U.F. Grant's "Cow and Milk Trick" from 1955 to add some new touches, like the vanishing cow and transformation into a toy plastic cow, etc. If you are still doing the old version of the trick, you might want to check out Jim's improvements:

I actually think the joke is about the "interrupting cow."

Good point, interrupting cow, indeed -- but motivated by her impatience.

Re: Bossie Cow
That is truly one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen. No wonder those the boomer kids created havoc in the 1960s when they'd grown up: that traumatic childhood Magic Clown was all that was needed.

Re: Bossie Cow
I think the Magic Clown was NY children's tv host "Uncle" Fred Scott who I remember from my childhood as host of the Felix the Cat show.

The Magic Clown in that episode was Dick DuBois.

PressureFan: Thanks for posting that video clip of "The Magic Clown"...
Bossie the Cow; Rag Pictures; Bird Cage Production; and a Jumbo Card Rise w/ "turn-around" card....all just great.

Re: Bossie Cow
Thanks. I was surprised by that card rise. I've never seen it before. The end credits were interesting too; "Magic Equipment by Lou Tannen's Magic Shop. New York."
Re: Bossie Cow
Sure enough, Tannen's 1949 catalog #1 advertises their "Jumbo Card Rise" with 'turn-around' card...for $50.00.
Offhand, I didn't see Ireland's "Bossy Cow" listed in there; but they probably sold it anyway.
I wonder if "the Magic Clown" ever did a follow-up to his "glass of milk vanish"....by using Grant's "Cow Trick" -- reproducing the glass of milk from between two flat plaques, one of which depicted a cow:

My research tells me that the "Jumbo Rising Cards - with "turn-around" Card" (ala Tannen's early catalogs and on "The Magic Clown"....
was released in 1948 by "REDHILL" (Fred Rothenberg), aka - "Fred Redhill", of Inwood, NY..........Retail = $50.00.

On the Facebook group Magic Collector's Corner , Mitch Goodkin posted four photos of the Bossie Cow apparatus. It's a private group, not public, so I can't link to the photos from here, but if you join the group (administered by David Sandy and Lance Rich) you can view the photos. They were posted on May 11 , 2021.
