Carl Rosini Card Transposition

Postby Bob Farmer » August 6th, 2020, 11:47 am

The original effect was this: there are two sets of 10 cards each. Three cards from one set vanish and appear in the other set. This is accomplished with a metal tray that has two secrets.

First, there is a magnet in its base. When placed on top of the first ten cards three cards are stolen thanks to a shim card.

Second, there is a secret compartment in the tray which secretly adds three duplicates to the second set of ten cards as the cards are tipped off the tray and into a bag.

The one I have was made by Morrissey Magic and is a beautiful prop.

However, I'm not crazy about the trick and was wondering if there were other routines in existence using the tray. The secret compartment can hold playing cards, envelopes and coins.

Jim Steinmeyer has a few nice presentational and management touches that gives a justification for the prop in conjunction with the cards. It can be found in his lecture notes Artificial conclusions . It's item number 7 in the notes: "the allergic Card trick." With the current restrictions of social distancing, such unusual hands-off handling of the cards looks like standard operating procedure.

Steinmeyer's The Allergic Card Trick is also his The Conjuring Anthology on page 410. He provides instructions on how to make your own tray.
