Old Principle - New Illusion

Jim Gerrish's "Phantom Chimney" is based on the Phantom Tube principle, put to a new use in his "Special Delivery" Illusion that vanishes a "Carry-On" Santa Claus costume, and then continues to be used in large silk productions and finally the production of an "Elf" (small child). It's an example of "just when you thought nothing new was available for magic" an old principle is twisted into a new variation and makes what seems to be a whole new trick. Are there other examples of this happening in magic currently (2019)? I know it has happened many times in the past, but is it still going on today?
