Bossie Cow

Postby Bob Farmer » July 1st, 2021, 8:45 am

The Ireland Magic Company marketed a trick by Carlton King entitled, "Bossie Cow Milk Trick."

An empty glass magically fills with milk. The milk is poured into a tube open at both ends but the milk does not run out the bottom. Covered with the tube, the glass of milk vanishes.

I have some ideas on how this all works but anyone has the original instructions, I'd love to see them.

Bob:

I had the pleasure of playing with the original "Bossy Cow" prop, just a few weeks ago.

Check out the August 1979 issue of GENII: "Milk-O" article by Ted Colteaux (page 542)......There is a sketch of "Bossy" and her gaffs...and a brief description of how she is utilized.

Rumor has it --"Bossy" herself - will be for sale on a certain dealer's table - at Bill Smith's August 2021, Las Vegas "Magic Collector Expo - 2021"

Jim Gerrish revisited U.F. Grant's "Cow and Milk Trick" from 1955 to add some new touches, like the vanishing cow and transformation into a toy plastic cow, etc. If you are still doing the old version of the trick, you might want to check out Jim's improvements:

"Knock knock."

"Who's there?"

"Impatient Cow."

"Impatient c..."

"MOO!"

I actually think the joke is about the "interrupting cow."

Good point, interrupting cow, indeed -- but motivated by her impatience.

That is truly one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen. No wonder those the boomer kids created havoc in the 1960s when they'd grown up: that traumatic childhood Magic Clown was all that was needed.

I think the Magic Clown was NY children's tv host "Uncle" Fred Scott who I remember from my childhood as host of the Felix the Cat show.

Jack, that should be "Very Scary Uncle Fred."

The Magic Clown in that episode was Dick DuBois.
