question abour a packet trick with inverse gilbreath

Postby MarcillaAitor » December 2nd, 2022, 8:02 pm

Hello, a friend reminded me of a game that I also knew and I don't remember where I read it. The effect is 10 cards (2 series of 5 cards, example 1-2-3-4-5) They are piled up in a group and cut several times, then 5 are reversed placing them on the table and the rest next to them, too face down, you are not inverted. 5 coins are extracted and placed as desired, in front of each package example 3 and 1 and from the group where 3 coins are placed, this number of cards are passed from top to bottom that number 3. From the other group it is passed from top to bottom 1 equals the number of coins in that group. Now that pair of cards from the top is removed and one of the coins is placed on top, leaving 3 coins and repeating the process and the cards match in pairs. Does anyone know where this game based on Gilbreath can be published? thank you group

Actually, it sounds more like the Will the Cards Match principle than the Gilbreath. It originated with Howard Adams, I believe. I once wrote a little blog post about a formula for that principle here:

I got confused because of Gilbreath's principle but you're right, the origin comes from Howard Adams (The Ramesee Principle).

The principle is also explained in Encyclopedia of Impromptu Card Tricks by Lewis Jones, 2nd edition - 2010, page 129 The Spelling Match.

The sentence "Will the Cards Match" is from Larry Becker in Apocalypse, Vol. 10, no. 5, may 1987, page 1349.

A variation from the '80s was "Auto Suggestion" by Bob Ostin.

This trick seems difficult to find, but, thank to Paul Hallas, if you have Bob Ostin, A Lifetime of Magical Inventions by Stephen Tucker (2005), go to page 142 and read
