Charles O. Williams created the trick but when it was explained in The Art of Magic in 1909 by Downs/Hilliard, his name was not mentionned.

Fortunatly, in 1910, Prof. Hoffmann correctly assigned the trick to Williams in his book Magical Tidbits.

Annemann, in The Jinx No. 32, may 1937, page 206, wrote :
"The first method is the best known and came out around 1902 in England, being sold for about five dollars." but not quote Williams.

Yes, Sir!
Page 92, The Card in the Pocket
Also, you can find it in Later Magic, (2nd edition 1911), page 573: To Discover and Pocket the Card Thought of by a Spectator
I haven't find the Ad in 1902. If someone has a reference...

Re: card to pocket of Charles Oswald Williams
If anyone has the book New Card Tricks for Experts, published in 1905, there is a trick, page 5, named Otto's Subtle Discovery of a Card (Ref: Potter's Master Index) which seems to be the explanation of Williams' trick.
As I haven't this book, if anyone can check...
